What a week it has been in football! Actually we’ll scratch that because things didn’t roll my way football-wise this weekend just gone.

I am currently sitting in my camp chair on Fraser Island at 7.37pm after a feed of pasta, with the kids in bed & me & the missus not being too far from the sack ourselves. It was a ripper day today but I’ll start off from Saturday when we left Fingal Bay.

It ended up being a pretty big drive of 10 & a half hours from Fingal Bay to Brisbane. Mostly uneventful & the kids were very well behaved. Except for the Big Prawn in Ballina & the mass of roadwork going on. Also, it was interesting to note that there are stacks of rest stops along the highways in NSW but that stops in QLD. No idea why... Got to Rum & Stacey’s around 7.00pm, had a few drinks & went to bed. Ended up being six adults & six children in the house!

On Sunday we had a pretty lazy day. Went to King Country (sort of kiddy pat the farm animal thing that had a cafe as well), took the kids to the park & had a BBQ for tea. My family also ended up going to see my great Aunty Sheila, her son Adrian & his missus Robin. It was great to catch up with them & hear about Adrian & Robin’s upcoming trip around the world – lucky buggers.

Monday saw us at Dreamworld for the day. A great day weather-wise & also the parks themselves. We all had a few rides & went on waterslides, etc, with my highlight being Nathan going on the Giant Drop with Kade & Rum – I have done it once years ago & never will again. Kade & Nath were very brave, while I spent my time stressing that he’s freak out. Not to worry as when the ride was pretty much over I could clearly hear Nath yell out “That was awesome. Can we go again?” We wandered back home & Stacey had organised a party for her daughter Lily’s birthday. Stace & Rum’s mum Wendy put on a great spread.

I spent yesterday buying some stuff for our four days on Fraser Island & catching up with Mel, Kerstin & Chris in Brisbane for lunch & a few beers. Again it was good to see some of the old crew from Brisbane. That night we took Kade to footy training & then had Montezuma’s (Mexican) for dinner. Gold – you’ve got to try it if you get the chance.

Today was fantastic! Stace saw us off for the drive up to Rainbow Beach to Fraser Island. Once we’d grabbed our barge tickets we headed off to the ferry for the trip over. At this point we hit a sand road so we stuck the trucks in 4WD & drove over 300m odd of deep-ish sand to board the ferry. It was lucky we had some momentum up as it was quite the drive. The ferry ride only lasted 10 minutes so we only had time to drop the tyre pressure in one or two tyres each before off loading onto some more deep soft sand on Fraser Island. In fact it was so deep that I managed only three metres before getting bogged – ripper start that! Dropped the pressure in the remaining tyres & took off. It was fantastic driving along the beach, through the creeks & sand drifts. It got even better once we headed inland & drove around to the campground via 30km odd of sand tracks through some beautiful bush. I loved it, especially one of the big puddle crossings that we have a video of.

Tomorrow we are off to some spots here on the island for a look. Can’t wait.

Thanks to the Rumney’s & my Uncle Ross for putting up with us. It was great fun at both spots & we really appreciate the efforts they went to, to make us welcome.
