Day 1 ~ We've Just Begun (2006)

Sunday, 7th May 2006

“I’m going to HK & Macau for 10 days!”

“10 days!” I had raised the eyebrow of another fellow being. “This is way too long a duration for this Asian capital!”

However, as the itinerary was done up, 10 days was barely sufficient to cover the 2 places really. Clare and I were here 4 years ago before I started school in University. And yes, this 06’ graduation trip helped to bring everything to a complete closure.

9.50am - We took an early flight in the morning of 7th May 2006 from the new budget terminal to Macau. I had barely enough sleep from the General Elections syndrome having stayed up late to catch the broadcast.

It’s my 3rd time flying with Tiger Airways and so really knew what to expect. Basically, food, drinks and blanket can be purchased on board should we need it. And the miserable leg room did not help matters for a 1.77m lad. I was thinking that luckily, the toilets on board were FOC.

I guess since we paid only S$100+ for a 3hr 40

No frills, no nonsense
mins journey to the ex-Portuguese settlement, we had to put up with the minor inconvenience.

1.30pm - Welcome to Macau International Airport. We wasted no time in catching a fast ferry (yes much bigger leg room FINALLY) into Hong Kong Island where we caught the MTR all the way to Kowloon Peninsula. It was no fun dragging our luggage thru the transit system where the escalators were far and few between. I’m glad that there wasn’t any complaints haha…

Overrated: Avenue of the Stars, Tsim Sha Tsui.

Few miserable statutes and handprints dotted the promenade and yes the poor lighting made it difficult to differentiate whose “hands” was it on the ground when we reached at 7.30pm.

8.00pm - the nightly pyrotechnics show began. I was told that there would be fireworks on special days so kind of disappointed. Our consolation: the night view of Victoria Harbour was simply breathtaking. Just that my camera failed to do some justice at the amazing view.

9.00pm - We strolled down Nathan Road along Tsim Sha Tsui and stopped by a few spots before catching the MTR to Ladies Market. And remember to bargain hard to avoid

being ripped off. My reward: A leather bag down from HK$130 to HK$80.
