When we first saw these nests we were in awe :-) After the 100th we kinda stopped noticing.
Well, what a day so far.

We had an excellent night in the Big Stone hotel in Ukmerge, if you are ever in the area you could do alot worse than stopping here. Very friendly staff, great food.

We left a little later than planned this morning after repacking out bags and the van, but we made excellent time Panevezys. We followed Route 147 North from Ukmerge through some gorgeous country side, mostly flat open landscape with loads of small chalets / villages and hundreds of Storks living everywhere.

We hit route 21 and found a perfectly smooth road for the last 12 miles into town.

When we got to Panevezys we met Rugute again and met Naglis a 6 year old boy who was supported by Rugute. He was very talkative and wants to be a policeman when he grows up and wants his mum and dad to paint their car yellow :-)

We are having lunch in town now before completing another 40 miles this afternoon.

More to follow

drivers
How do you find drivers behavior while overtaking you? Do you feel safe on the road?

Usually very good
For most of the trip other road users have been excellent. We have travelled almost 400 miles across the country so far and the detailed answer to your question is as follows: In cities the drivers are less likely to be coureous, but are still fairly well behaved and usually give as much space as the road conditions allow, however we have had some near misses. On the main routes between cities (A2 / 21 etc) the drivers were mostly very courteous and gave us loads of room. We felt very safe. On the smaller roads out in the country (around Plateliai or Taurage) the drivers are mostly good but have a tendancy to over take on blind summits or blind corners which can cause problems if cars come the other way. Over all the main criticism I would have is that drivers tend not to anticipate what a cyclist may need to do (e.g. dodge a pot hole or two) and therefore might get too close sometimes. However, having said all that, we have had an excellent trip where 95% of other road users were very well behaved. thanks for the question.
