BYRON BAYBYRON BAYBYRON BAY

love the car... love the view...
People say that one stop into Byron Bay and you wont want to leave or at the very least, you will be back real soon...
They might be right... I just love the place...

My first day in Byron coincided with the Byron Bay 2011 Triathlon...
How exciting and what an absolute treat to be front row and watch a triathlon take place absolutely live from start to finish...

So whats Byron like?... Its kind of hard to describe it in just a few words...

Its got a village-like atmosphere similiar to Nimbin, sophisticated bits and pieces here and there like Noosa, oodles of backpackers and transients like Airlie Beach... and a cohesive close knit community of new agers, surfers, hippies, fashionable alternatives, the well heeled and a few celebs tossed in...
But mostly I think its a bohemian, funky surf town... its got fantastic beaches and the surfing... well, the long boarders come from far and wide to catch the waves around this region...
And... if you dont know how to surf, but would like to, then you can have personal one on one lessons with Rusty Miller... a former USA surf champion from way back in

woo hoo... the bryon tri was on...
1965... he's still out there every day...

The exclusive little enclave in Byron is Watego Bay and if you have the funds, Rae's on Watego is rated as one of the worlds finest boutique hotels... it only has 7 villas and the awards and positive reviews just keep on flowing...
I didnt go inside but it looks absolutely gorgeous from the outside... painted soft pink and surrounded by palm trees... the epitome of summerhouse elegance...

The weather has been absolutely picture perfect... and I must say to my friend Brian in Scotland - is it any wonder that I struggled so much in Europe and the UK with the weather... The northern hemisphere summer in 2010 for the most part, did not come remotely close to the warmth of sun and clarity of blue skies that I have experienced for a 2011 winter in the Southern Hemisphere...
Guess its decided then... I wont be relocating anywhere too far north of the equator anytime soon...

Till next time... Nic
