Finally I got a lie in, well until 9am at least. Despite having my own luxury room (compared with the last few months) the sun was shining through the curtains and I felt guilty about staying in bed any longer. Yet again the weathermen have the forecast totally wrong. It was meant to be cloudy with showers today; it turned out the whole day was gorgeous.

Leaving the car behind I got on a bike from the hostel and headed out to explore the local village. Heavily reliant on fishing there was a definite whiff in the air. After exploring the harbour and inlet via far to many hills I went out to some of the coves and beaches. I stood under Australia Rock, which is a large pinnacle of rock on the beach that has a perfect 6x6 whole carved out of its center in the shape of Australia. It’s totally natural and surprisingly accurate.

After recovering from all the exercise on the bike I went out to Mystery Bay, a beautiful remote bay and the perfect place for lunch. The water was so clear you could watch all the fish swimming around. The water was exceptionally cold though and paddling down the beach soon came to and end!

Before heading back I visited Tilba. A small village with a population of about 100. It was established a very long time ago and nobody thought to modernize it. Very old and very quaint. I cam back to Naromma just before sunset and watched an old couple skinning their catch down by the water, eagerly watched over by a dozen giant pelicans all waiting and jostling each other for any unwanted fish guts. The water round here is teeming with fish. You can stand on the boardwalk and watch hundreds swim by, anything from a few inches to several feet in length. The whole cove is also a haven for birds. It could quite easily put Slimbridge to shame.

Tomorrow I head further South, hoping to get to Lakes Entrance. It will be about 5 hours of driving so with stops should take most of the day.

Thanks for the comments; I’m glad to see that people are reading this. I’m writing this mainly as my record buy it’s nice to know that other people are taking an interest too.
