Hello everyone. I'm sitting right now in Antigua, Guatemala. I arrived on the 18th after spending four nights at Copan in Honduras. Or was it three? I don’t remember anymore. I had a really good time there. I saw the ruins, which are the first Mayan ruins I've seen. They were really nice. The Copan Ruins are unique because of the intricacy of the carvings. The ruins are the big draw of the town, but the town itself is what held me up there for 3 or 4 nights. I met the right people and was sucked into some strange small town party vortex. I managed to escape, but now I'm in the biggest party town in Central America. My will is strong and my wallet is shrinking, so if all goes as planned I will be heading to Lago Atilan on Monday (The day after tomorrow). As much as a tourist trap Antigua is, I really do like it so far. It's the largest of all the Central American colonial cities and also the most well maintained. It has a nice balance of ruined out buildings and of beautifully maintained ones. I always like to see both. Antigua's a major crossroads for travelers, volunteers, study-abroad and Spanish students. So as you can imagine the bars are packed every night, and everything a whitey can want, one can find here. From what I've heard from other travelers; being here looks and feels like being in one of Europe's old cities. And for me the climate here makes me feel at home. It's about 60 degrees and the sky is as grey as cement. I'm here during the leading edge of rainy season, so there have been clouds and little bursts of rain everyday. Most days it just rains in the afternoon, but it’s been off and on all day today. My only complaint about Antigua is the price of things. Going out here costs a fortune, but is irresistible. There are friendly beautiful girls everywhere. So what can I do? I'm signing off for now, but first I have to plug the hostel I'm staying in. If you're heading to Antigua, and you like a good social hostel - stay at The Black Cat. Good location, prices, and food. Also comfortable beds. It's only 2 months old and won’t be in the LP until the '08 edition. But this place doesn't even need to be in the LP. Ok - Adios.
