I think we need to bring some back to Australia personally
The other Aussies and I decided to go to Hannover for a day using the group train ticket, we got to Hannover and back for less than 5 Euro each! We were like the blind leading the blind that day because none of us had really checked what there is to do at Hannover, the tourist information centre was closed when we arrived and it was just too cold to think. So we pretty much just walked around hoping to stumble onto something interesting and surely enough we discovered the ‘red thread’. Basically a red line that you follow through Hannover to all the major sights, it was evidently made for tourists just like us!

The most interesting sight was the Hannover Town Hall (or as the Germans would say, Rathaus). The building itself was impressive enough but inside it had models of Hannover at 4 different periods of time. So you could see how the city had grown but you could also see just what a large percentage of the town was destroyed in WWII and that was pretty much the entire town. But the Germans have done an amazing job restoring all of the building to their

former glory. A few have been left in ruins probably as a sort of reminder.

One thing we did know going to Hannover though is that it apparently has some very impressive gardens so we decided to catch a train to see them. However being ignorant Aussies we didn’t think about the fact that it was just the end of winter and that everything would look dead because the trees are not evergreen. So we basically went on a pointless train trip but I think we will have to come back in the spring or in summer because the photos of the place make it really look like its worth it, and besides its a cheap day trip!
