Wes’s diligent internet research found us the Red Gate Farm RV Park. The major selling point for us was proximity to town (it’s only 8 minutes from the center of Savannah). But, it gets an A++++ in so many categories; I am going to post more about it; and The Mackey House in a separate blog. The Mackey House is the adjacent event venue (think destination weddings/corporate events) with real southern flair.
This is our third trip into Savannah. We once came for a day trip by water taxi from Hilton Head and once did a trolley tour and a few museums and restaurants. This time we had four days. The photos tell the tale of this great stop as we slowly work our way home.
Many thanks to Bob and Allison (Thurmond) Smith who moved to The Landings a gorgeous community on Skidaway Island some years ago. They gave us some great ideas (45 Bistro in the Marshall Hotel downtown and Rock on the Roof at the Bohemian Hotel near City Hall and the Riverwalk) and gave us a great tour and lunch at one of the golf clubs at the Landings. Apple Blossoms
The shrubs abloom in Savannah were breath taking! Azalea, dogwood, wisteria, and apple and cherry blossoms were brilliant. Anemones were nodding colorfully in gardens all over town! the “founding days” will remember Allison.
We probably surprised ourselves by being more “settled” and spending more time at the RV site. We had work to catch up on and the setting was conducive to “taking it down a notch!” Very serene!
Tybee Island, is Savannah's beach district. It has a historic lighthouse, a nice beach, nice restaurants, and t-shirt stands and souvenier shops typical to beach districts. The commercial district was well and good; but it is the beautiful marshes with long docks and lots of birds that remind us of Forest Gump and The Pelican Brief."
Our stop near Pawley's Island at Lichfield by the Sea was personally rewarding as we spent time with a second cousin I recently met via FaceBook. Marilyn and Bob and Wes and I hit it off beautifully and we enjoyed their gracious hospitality. Marilyn and I had fun doing some geneology research and we enjoyed a relaxing Sunday "at home." It's the first we have been in a real home and had a homecooked meal in going on 7 weeks. We also got a taste of wonderful local seafood as Bob's guest at Nance's Creekside Restaurant in Murrell's Inlet.
City Hall, Savannah, Georgia
This, like Schenectady's, is a picture post card City Hall We are postponing our trip to the Outer Banks, a French meal at Kim & Eric Masson's Brentwood Restaurant & Wine Bar (Little River, SC) and the delights of Brookgreen Gardens near Huntington Beach State Park for next fall. Unfortunately, after all of the beautiful weather, Mother Nature is turning against us. The weather is too "iffy" for the beaches and ferry crossings in our planned itinerary. Bob and Marilyn want us to meet up again when we next pass through.
We're heading for Cherry Hill RV Park in College Park, MD for a few days in Washington, DC. Hoping the rain, wind, and snow don't ruin the Cherry Blossom Festival.

I am so jealous!! Tybee, Savannah, Charleston...some of my favorite places on earth! I used to get down there a couple of times a year. The flowers are absolutely gorgeous this time of year. Dogwood, camellias, azaleas...I miss them so much!
