Hi Time for me again...

What John ommitted to tell you in his last update was that around the red center there were thousands of bloody flies. Our guide informed us that there was three ways to protect our selves. !. Fly nets over our heads, mmm nice fashion accessory 2. Insect spray which he said they just licked off. 3. Cream that diguised your smell which all the locals used. We opted for the third way but what he ommitted to tell us was just how bad it smelt, we nearly cleared the coach when we applied it to ourselves, also that the rain washed it off, so we were back to square one...

Back to my blog

We left Sydney on Saturday which I didn't really want to do as I learnt it was the Mardi Gras Parade and fireworks over the harbour that evening, and you know me i don't like to miss anything. Anyway after picking our car up in the morning we decided to toss a dollar to see which way we should travel, heads south, tails north and tails it was (no cheating-honest) Yay off to Byron Bay.

Day one of our seven day car trip, we head out of Sydney and travelled to Nelson Bay, a beautiful little coastal town and managed yet again to book into a hotel with a balcony overlooking the ocean. We spent a very pleasant afternoon and evening relaxing here.

Day Two. We stopped at a place called Port Macqire for coffee on our way up the coast and John wanted to stop here for the evening, but me being me wanted to go to a place called West Rocks because the previous evening two Aussies told us abot what a lovely place it was. Off we went to the said destination, which i again changed on route after reading about it in the lonely planet, we eventually arrived at a place called Coffs Harbour, which we didin't see alot off as it was raining hard by this time, not a very good day.

Day Three. Byron bay- I love this place, full of young backpackers, old hippies, and now John and me. The town has a very laid back feel and a beach to die for. We decided to stay for two days and booked into a motel complete with our own kitchen, washing machine and dryer. Bonus.

Day Four. Chilled out in the morning then we walked up to the lighthouse. We did the same walk in 2003 when we were told about a snake, you can imagine my fear about the climb, John was definately the leader on this occassion.

Day Five. Back down the coast to Port Mcquarie, the place John wanted to stop at on the way up. The place had a nice up market feel about it, bu8t i am sure anywhere would have felt like that after Byron Bay. We walked part of the 9km coastal walk and the scenery was fantastic.

John is going to write about day six and seven.

I was driving our automatic car the other morning when John looked across and said "You know this is like experiencing bungy jumping for me"
