Around 4:30am my battery died in my phone which acts as my alarm clock. Oops. I ended up stretching on the river front around 6am. Breakfast was at 7am. Linda showed up very late as she is having troubles adjusting to a group’s time schedule. She said we are rotating seats in the van without a discussion. As I got sick yesterday, I asked to sit in the front, but of course she said absolutely not. Long story short, I told her I am not going to spend the next 18 days getting car sick every day because she has a stick up her ass. Oops again.

John Locke said he would take care of it. He saw how sick I got yesterday. As Linda got in the car before me, she sat in the front row. There are 3 seats. I asked her to move over so we can both sit there. She said absolutely not, we have assigned seats. I begged her to take the stick out of her ass. OYE. I am fighting with a 60 something year old lady who hasn’t gotten laid since her husband divorced her 30 something years ago. My hero, Locke couldn’t keep himself from laughing. I took a Dramamine and slept for about 6 of the 8 hours driving today. I was a zombie. I know I am driving the bus to hell; however on every other tour I have been on over the past year, once I get green and start getting dizzy… everyone has offered me the front seat. I don’t recall a single time that anyone argued with me over this. So perhaps I am overreacting, but having motion sickness sucks. Being in Africa and not seeing every animal, flower, attraction that is pointed out to us when I am passed out makes me feel like I am totally missing out.

So in zombie fashion, we arrived at Fish River Canyon. We were doing about a 2km walk. I convinced Coleman to do the walk with me. He told me all about his high blood pressure, his heart attack, and his headaches – OYE. Poor man. He does seem really sweet… but he still wouldn’t give up the front seat today. I gave him a high 5 when the walk was done (besides the heat, it was a very nice walk).

Fish River Canyon is known as the largest canyon next to the Grand Canyon. It is the Grand Canyon of Africa; however it is not a huge tourist attraction. It isn’t really built up all that much. People do 5 day hikes in this canyon – I assume mainly in the winter months as it is hot as balls in the summer (this time of year if you didn’t know)!

Throughout the day we saw different wildlife in the back roads of Namibia. We stopped at a local village that was only occupied when grapes need to be harvested. This village was made up of little huts. No electricity, no running water… it is what it is. The views were outstanding – surrounded by the mountains. We met a few locals who offered to take some pictures with us.

For lunch we headed to a restaurant that had the coolest decorations from all over the world, including old school cars. It was pretty sweet. By the time we got to our hotel for the night it was almost 4pm. We are staying at an old castle. There are roosters, chickens, parrots, dogs, and a… well, an oryx (part of the antelope family) that thinks it’s a chicken (as it was raised with the chickens). It actually posed for me – very cute! Ann and I have the room on the top floor which are 8 staircases of uneven tile and wood up. Phew… no need to go up and down more than a few times until we leave tomorrow morning. There is no AC and it is about 90 degrees. I will probably have some alcohol with dinner to help me sleep tonight!
