So here we are the last day of having fun before we have to start traveling home. What are 6 university students going to do to finish off an amazing trip?! Well what any reasonable person would do…jump out of a plane!
Taupo is know for being the cheapest (and safest) place to skydive, so the 6 of us decided to do it! And man was it the best decision of my life. Now I have been threatening to do this since I turned 18…it only took me 3 years to actually do it hehe.
If you ever have the opportunity to skydive…do it!! I am so serious, there is no way to explain how amazing it was. I did it tandem so there was some (trained in skydiving) strapped to me who did all the hard stuff, and that made it so much more enjoyable, didn’t have to really think about anything. Except for the fact your hurtling towards the ground at over 200km/hr!
We were scheduled to do the sunrise jump, at 7am but due to fog we didn’t get to jump until almost 10. we all get strapped into our spaceman outfits, meet our tandem masters, and head to the plane. Its bright yellow, with teeth, single engine, prop plane. We squeeze in and take off. It takes about 20 min to get up to altitude, but it was well worth the wait, the view was so purty!!
We get to the cruising height, of 12,000 feet! Then the door opened, now this was a first, its really cold up there. Charlie was the first to go, and man one min he was there and the next gone! It was so crazy. I was the second last to go, we scooted our way to the back of the plane and sat down on the ledge of the door, I had to wrap my legs under the plane, all set to go, and my guy goes, “so you still want to go?”, all I could do was nod and look out to the ground. It was so surreal by this point, I was really gonna jump out of a plane… and next thing I knew we where falling towards the ground. I thought my stomach would drop like a roller coaster, but it was smooth sailing. We fell for 45-50 seconds, this was enough time to comprehend what you

are doing! And man what a thought that was. but it was soon over with one pull of the rope, we were jerked to standing position and just ‘cruzed the rest of the way down. Played in the clouds a little, did a few circles, then landed on our butts in the sand.
It was amazing. Perfect was to end a perfect trip.
Till Next Time!
