Most of our time back in London has been spent hanging out with Alex's family and friends. We spent 3 nights at Daniella's(Alex's Mom) house watching movies. We went to dinner with 2 of Alex's good friends Katie and Anna. We walked down to a pub near their house(that is something I will miss, being able to walk to the pub!) and hung out there till it closed. We also had dinner with Alex's cousin and her 2 boys one night which turned out to be a laughter filled night. The 6 year old told his older brother to give his grandma a wet willy. Nana is 86 and did not know what a wet willy is. When he said that, she said "A what?!?!" sounding absolutely horrified and shocked! We all laughed and after the laughter subsided a bit Alex saved Nana and told her little cousin not to do it and then explained to her what a wet willy is... After a few more minutes of laughter the 6 year old says "what did you think it was?" ~ hahahahahahahahaha try explaining that one to a 6 year old!!!
We went to Portobello Market which is a famous antiques market. The area it is in has wonderful architecture and of course there is so much to look at throughout the market it would be impossible to see it all. If you collect antiques this would be a good place to go! Alex and I shared a hot melted Carmel stuffed churro and had hot mulled wine to warm us up!
We did make it to the British Museum. It was wonderful. It is very large and full of information!!!! That was very exciting for us! We walked through the Egypt, Greece, Persian, Japan, China, Africa and Modern Art sections. We were there over 4 hours and we only saw half of the museum!
I couldn't come to London and not go get my picture taken at Abby Road so I dragged Alex there! It was a freezing cold day and Abby road is a busy intersection. There is tons of traffic and there were lots of people there doing the same thing as me! I had a major case of the giggles the whole time because there are so many people just walking back and forth across the zebra crossing trying to get the perfect shot all the while stopping traffic every few cars!
And then of course, our last stop, Stonehenge! I had been looking forward to this bit the whole trip. We were up at 5am. We left the house at 6am and made it to Stonehenge just after 8am. Once again it was absolutely bone chillingly freezing out! But the sun was shining 😊 We had till 9am to walk around through the stones taking photos as the sun came up. We were not allowed to touch the stones, sit on them, eat anything, drink anything, etc... Only walk around and take photos. At exactly 8:30am the sun was lined up perfectly to shine through the 2 circles of stones and into the middle. There were around 25 people there total, and about 10 of those people were standing in the middle in a hugging sort of circle doing some sort of praying but I don’t know what cause they were not speaking English. I think doing the inner circle access tour was well worth it. If I ever do it again I would prefer to go in the summer because it was so cold my hands hurt! The stones are massive and it is amazing to wonder how it was put together, especially when you take into consideration that most of the stones came from Wales around 130 miles away!
After that we went to Salisbury and walked through the Salisbury Cathedral. The Cathedral is amazing! A beautiful example of gothic style architecture. A piece of the original Magna Carta is kept there and displayed in a glass case which was pretty awesome to see. The cathedral has changed throughout the years but the foundations were laid in 1220. There is also a medieval clock, they believe it to be the oldest working clock to exist in the world(I was unfortunately not allowed to take photos in this section) After that we had lunch at a little place down a side road before heading to the bus station to get back to London.
Today I packed and then Daniella came over and we all played Yatzee till the sun set. We had a nice dinner and watched a movie... And so my trip has come to an end. Tomorrow I fly home to Colorado! I can't wait to see everyone!
