Andrew, Oliver and I on ShoreAndrew, Oliver and I on ShoreAndrew, Oliver and I on Shore

It's too dark to see anything, but here I am with my family on the shore at our hotel in Saint Thomas. We were exhausted from travel, but it was good to be there!
My parents, Andrew, Oliver and I woke at 3am MST in Denver to start our journey for Saint Thomas. The first leg of our trip took us to Chicago, where we met with my brother and sister, Andy and Julie, and my sister-in-law, Erin. The eight of us flew to Miami and then down south for another couple hours to Saint Thomas.

After fourteen hours of travel with a fourteen month old, I landed feeling more stressed than anything else (not that Oliver did poorly; in fact, he was incredible. It was exhausting, though). Still, it was difficult not to feel the relaxing nature of vacation when we disembarked the plane (outside) and stepped into 73 degree, humid air. We strolled over to baggage claim where a man was handing out shots of pinapple rum. Andrew and I both passed on the rum, but it added to the atmosphere of our tropical vacation anyway.

Taxis (vans) lined up outside of baggage claim, but there was no one hassling us. We made our way to the "taxi loading" sign, and a gentleman with the taxis directed us to a van that was heading to our hotel. For $5 a person,

Oliver's with Aunt Julie on the beach. He's a little crabby from fourteen hours of travel and needed sleep.
the man loaded up our bags and drove us to our Emerald Beach Resort. Again, I could feel the rush of our tropical vacation as we pulled in. There were bougainvilleas and palm trees everywhere! It was too dark to see the ocean (as it was after 10pm local time), but we could hear the waves crashing. Our resort is literally right on the shore! At check-in, we were all handed a coupon for a complimentary "rum punch" at the beach bar.

We went to our rooms to drop off our bags, and an employee came up with a crib for Oliver. Five minutes later, we were down at the beach bar! Erin, Julie and I walked along the shore a bit, and then we joined the rest of the party at the bar. Andrew and I split a rum punch, and it tasted like pineapple.

The day of travel wasn't completely out of my mind. After spending less than an hour down at the shore, Andrew, Oliver and I made our way upstairs to catch some sleep. I can't wait to see everything in the light of day and with rested eyes in the morning!

At 7am, there's no one on the beach! I took a minute to enjoy its peacefulness, and then we decided to get in our beach gear to play!
