Day 11 - Dec 31 - Buenos Aires, Argentina - Final Day and End of Our South America Vacation:
First of all, Happy New Year Everyone! Would like to thank you everyone who commented on our blog.
Before go over what we had done for our final day, just would like to recap what we did last night. As I mentioned on the last blog, we had made arrangements to meet with our friend from San Diego who is here in BA as well. We had a nice dinner with him and his friend. Vince, if you reading this, thanks again for great company, great conversation in a nice setting! Safe trip back home and we will see you in San Diego.
Today, we decided to do another bike tour but this time through the south side of the city including Retiro, Puerto Madero, and La Boca. La Boca means mouth of the river and it is where many immigrants settled. It was very crowded with tourists/tour buses when we were there but it was still a lot of fun to explore. The buildings are painted in various colors - the result of an artist who used left-over
paint to bring life to what was otherwise a depressed area. The pictures show how colorful the buildings are. It's also where the Tango dance originated. It was a great bike tour with a big group. Argentina has a rich history and you can get a sense of it in the buildings and the various communities that make up the city.
After our bike tour, we walked to the Recoleta area where we had our last taste of Argentina Ice Cream. We have found that Ice cream in South America and Asia tastes very different than in the US. We loved their Ice cream and we have had prently of it. We got back to the hotel around 3 pm and went for one last walk through the Palermo area. It was a nice way to end our last day afternoon in Buenos Aires.
Tonight, we plan to go out have a nice quit new year dinner to celebrate the 2011 in Argentina. I remembered last year, we had our new year dinner in Luang Prabang, Laos with our friends from Canada.
This is will our last travel blog of our South America trip. Overall, we really
enjoyed our trip to South America and found it quite different from what we expected. Rio and Buenos Aires are themselves very different as one is a beach spot while the other is much more cosmopolitan. Both were a lot of fun to explore.
We will see everyone at home.
Again, thank you for reading our blog and thank you for all your comments.
Here is our pictures from today.
