Debre Libanos

Poor Susi didn't even talk to me for a day, well, - as I only woke up in the afternoon after a pretty drunk night out- for half a day, as I cancelled our trip to Debre Libanos at 6 in the morning in a text message.
But, as always, not planning and going with the flow works out very well at the end 😊

We met Teddy and Teddy some weeks earlier at Bailamos. Typical Zsuzsi situation: I was bagging for one more last song from the DJ, and Teddy, his friend was just laughing at me...hope it was only because I asked for Beyoncé.... :D Anyways they drove us home, 13 people squeezed in a Land Cruiser...
By coincidence we met again at the Goethe Institute at a very exciting photo exhibition. Young local and professional foreigner artist showed their Ethiopia through amazing pictures: http://www.addisfotofest.com/ , worth a visit!
Talking about the skipped hiking to Debre Libanos Teddy suddenly said, OK guys, I can drive you there, let's go together on Saturday! Wooowww...Issi, all right! 😊)

So instead of taking one of the early morning buses that run only two times a day, we left at 9 with Teddy and Teddy, Susi, Esset, Jan, a girl that we met at Tigi's party, Armin, Miks and me.
Debre Libanos is 105km from Addis, and is one of the most holy places in the country preserving the memories and the right leg of one of the most revered saints, Tekla Haimanot.
He performed every miracle in both the Old and New Testaments, he stood still for 20 years until his right leg fell off, but he kept on praying for a further 7 years balancing on one leg, eating only one seed a year that a bird brought him for sustenance. For his devotion God awarded him 3 wings. The cave where he was living, well standing is sacred, so as the holy water that sources there. The admission to the cave and to the church is 100 Birr (5€) plus an additional 100 for photographing, so we skipped the holy sites and went to the Ethio-German Lodge for a coffee.
And so we finally saw the beauty. The wonder. The Ethiopian Grand Canyon. The evidence of nature's hard work. The place where time stops, where you realise that our power and time being here is just sooo tiny mote of dust comparing to the millions of years while the rivers formed the landscape, shaped valleys, monster rocks, caves, amazing!!
We spent some hours lying on the top of the waterfall watching the clouds, (me totally freaked out of the hawks that were checking us from some meters above), listening to the babbling voice of the stream, enjoying the mellow touch of the sun. Than we moved to the cliff of a giant rock to have some picnic and to spend an other some hours observing the amazing changing colours of the valley in the sunset.
This place is really blessed.


Szegény Susi egy egész napon keresztül, illetve- mivel egy borulós este után csak délután keltem fel- egy fél napon keresztül nem szólt hozzám, miután az előre megbeszélt kirándulásunkat Debre Libanosba reggel 6kor egy SMS-ben mondtam le.
De, mint mindig, a spontán megoldások is jól sülnek el a végén 😊

Teddyvel és Teddyvel néhány héttel ezelőtt találkoztunk a Bailamosban. Tipikus Zsuzsis szituációban: épp a DJ-nél reklamáltam még egy utolsó számért, Teddy, a haverja pedig csak röhögött rajtam... remélem csak azért, mert Beyoncétől kértem számot... :D Mindenesetre a buli után hazavittek minket (13man fértünk be a Land Cruiserbe...).
Teljesen véletlenül egy hétre rá megint összefutottunk a Goethe Intézetben, ahol nagyon megkapó fotókon keresztül fiatal helyi és profi nemzetközi művészek mutatták be saját Etiópiájukat: http://www.addisfotofest.com/ , érdemes megnézni!
Említve nekik az elmaradt hétvégi túrázást Teddy megszólalt, srácok, én el tudlak vinni titeket, menjünk szombaton együtt Debre Libanosba! Wooowww....issi, oké 😊)

Így a hajnali busz helyett, ami naponta csak kétszer indul, reggel 9kor nekivágtunk az útnak: a két Teddy, Susi, Esset, Jan,az amerikai lány, akit Tigi bulijában ismertünk meg, Armin, Miks és én.
105km-re Addistól található Debre Libanos, az egyik legszentebb hely, ami még ma is őrzi az egyik legszentebb szent, Tekla Haimanot emlékét és jobb lábát. A szerzetes mind az Ó-, mind az Újszövetség összes csodáját produkálta, 20 évig egy helyben imádkozott, míg végül leesett a jobb lába, ezután 7 évig tovább fohászkodott fél lábon egyensúlyozva, évente egyetlen szem magot fogyasztva, amit egy madár hozott neki. Állhatatosságáért a Jó Isten 3 szárnnyal jutalmazta meg. A barlang ahol élt, pontosabban állt ma áldott hely, az onnan eredő patak vize pedig mindent gyógyító szent forrás. A belépő 100 Birr (5€), plusz egy újabb 100-as, hogy a barlangot és templomot meg is örökíthessük. Ezt kihagyva az Ethio-German Lodge-ban ittunk egy kávét.
És megpillantottuk a csodát. Az elképesztő tájat. Az etióp Grand Kanyont. A bizonyítékot a természet erejének kőkemény munkájára. A hely, ahol megáll az idő, ahol rájön az ember, hogy a Földön töltött ideje és hatalma mennyire icipici porszem összehasonlítva a folyók millió éves munkájával, amíg kivájták a völgyeket, a gigászi sziklákat, barlangokat, felfoghatatlan!
Órákat töltöttünk a vízesés feletti sziklán napozva, a felhőket nézve, (részemről teljes pánikban a sólymokat figyelve, akik pár méterről lestek minket felettébb érdeklődve), a patak csobogását hallgatva. Majd áttelepedtünk egy másik szikla kiálló peremére, ahol meguzsonnáztunk és csodálattal figyeltük a sziklák váltakozó színét a naplementében. Ez a hely tényleg áldott.
