Monday, today I see the dentist. Got up early for breakfast at the hotel and then went for a short walk along the beach, the sand is white and warm. The hotel is a very family oriented place and there a quite a number of young children out on the water in Kayaks. It is fun to watch them learn how to paddle properly and avoid tipping while doing that. I did some reading and knitting during the morning, just relaxing before the dentist. The car arrived at 2:15 to pick me up as planned and take me to the dental office. The office is in a large plaza, with lots of activity going on around it. I arrived at 2:45, filled in the forms and then was taken into a dental chair. Dr. Pia came in to speak with me about what I was having done, and at that point I let her know that I had broken a tooth just that morning and it would also need seeing to. X-rays were taken of both the implants and the broken tooth, so that the dentists could have a better idea of what was to be done. The office was interesting, small, clean and efficient, a number of dentists all conferring and working together. Unlike home I did not see just one dentist who does everything, here I saw a dental specialist for everything that was done. After the X-rays, I had the healing caps removed from the implants and then molds were taken for the crowns. Once that was complete I was taken to another chair and the root canal specialist went to work on the broken tooth, once he was finished yet another dentist came in to place the post for the crown and put in a temporary crown. I was just amazed at the efficiency of the whole process. Time passed quickly and before I knew it 3 ½ hours had passed and I was making another appointment for Saturday to come back in and have the crowns placed.... all three of them. I met 3 other women all from Canada who had come to Cancun like I did specifically to see the dentist. We all had similar stories of needing major dental work which was not covered by a dental plan and finding the cost prohibitive, only to hear of the Cancun Cosmetic Dentistry and after checking it out deciding to give it a go. Before leaving the office I was given a prescription for pain medication and antibiotics. The clinic patient care representative then went with me to the pharmacy in the mall to pick these up, before calling the taxi to take me back to the hotel.
Back at the hotel as the freezing wore off I discovered that I had no pain and no need to the pain pills. The broken tooth had been bothering me for about a year and causing pain on and off which I had just become used to, only realizing now that it was gone how much it bothered me.
Had dinner in the hotel restaurant, but skipped the floor show in favour of a quiet evening on the balcony in my room with my knitting and a book.
