hola amigos!
so we´re in hot steamy Tulum after spending the night in Cancun last night. We flew in late and made it to the hostel Nest at about 9pm. We ate dinner at a cute little park called Parque las palapas which was up the road, we bought soft tacos and a drink for total $50 pesos = around $5US for both of us. then headed to the supermarket... theres no soap or toilet paper at the hostel! before heading back before 11am - when the desk clerk goes to bed and locks the gates for the night. (no one has keys at this place-you ring the bell out front and they let you in). We went to bed in a dorm with 12 beds, but only one other was occupied - or so we thought!!! at around 1am after tossing and turning but finally getting to sleep, 5 spanish backpackers who were muy barracho (very drunk) rang the bell numerous times (which resounds throughout the premises!) and turned all lights on and started to rummage through lockers! OMG! finally everyone went to sleep, but we woke up at around 8.30 anyway, so we feel a bit tired.
We caught the 2 1\2 hour bus south to Tulum, cute little tourist town, heavily dependent on this industry though. we havent checked the beach out yet but its supposed to be great. We plan to catch an early colectivo (minibus-cheap) to the ruinas about 4km north tomorrow and check out out first of many encounters with ancient mayan architecture, but if Dario´s sweatiness (and i spose now mine too´😊 ) has anything to do with it we´ll be hitting the beach in the afternoon.
Today we had an awesome lunch! went for a walk in tulum and found this cute little converted garage (most street shops look like this though) all nicely painted and kept with the gentleman who owns the place in a lovely pic on the front of the menu, he cooked us a beautiful couple of soft tacos each and had made his own chilli salsa which was awesome (but very spicy!) from complete scratch + drinks etc for $71 pesos! so like 7 bucks! woot! gotta love mexico, and the food is only gonna get cheaper the further south the country is.
anyway, hope all is well in Australia. x
