Took another ride out of Bangkok, it's worth doing just for the train ride. The carriage doors are permanently open for ventilation and if you want to sit in the doorway with your legs out the door, thats fine too. the station platforms (where they have them) are very low so no danger there. I don't get why the train stops at every level crossing to let the traffic clear, but for 30p for a 60 mile train ride, you can't complain. Ayuthaya is Thailands oldest town. The main attraction is the ruins of a vast palace there. I also met an interesting chap who took me to an elephant park, said they often need help with taking the elephants into the river and scrubbing them (fortunately I wasn't needed). one overfriendly elephant took my hand firmly in its trunk and pulled me towards him, I had to pull back hard to get free. Their trunks are amazingly strong and flexible.

Thailand - Ayuthaya
All that sounds very entertaining HOWEVER sitting with your legs dangling out of the door of a moving train....! Not being familiar with elephants I guess pulling your hand away was the sensible thing to do. Might have been it took an affectionate fancy to you hmm? Had phonecall from Jacqui who sounds busy but not I thought very relaxed. She's having a break from Riah at present. I'm afraid she's spared the rod and spoiled the child. It would have taken so little to teach Riah while small where her boundaries are. Now she has a hard lesson to learn by herself. Winter is here, blocked roads, Aberdeenshire with, as usual, the worst of the blizzards with snow ploughs out and stranded motorists. Alice treated us to lunch at Prezzo's. Dad is so frail now a days. I thought it wise to use the disabled toilet with him - for safety sake. Goodness knows what the other diners thought we were doing in there!! Take care and much love from dad and me mum xxxx

Bet it's hot where you are - well not here. We've really got winter with temperatures in the minuses. Mo came over today and cut back our hedge which was getting very straggly. There's hardly any hedge left as the branches lower down need to be laid. We didn't go anywhere today. Not even dad wanted to poke his nose outside the door. I come in as quickly as possible but do need to show willing. Well, off to bed now. It is the warmest place. Our love to you. dad and mum xxx

Got your text via Dom today. Glad it's all going well. We've got SNOW! It's just like it used to be and the promise is that it will go on for at least another week. Aberdeenshire is having a terrible time as is the Newcastle areas. Love mum and dad xxx
