Singapore

After a 12 hour flight, lots of movies, 3 meals, 2 beers each and very little sleep we arrive in Singapore airport (in Jim‘s case one year older!). We then went in search of our hostel. We successfully negotiated the MRT (tube) and after a 30 minute walk in the scorching Singapore sun we arrive at our hostel, Fernloft Chinatown. But it isn’t our hostel and we aren’t in Chinatown. We’ve arrived at the wrong branch, there are 3 Fernloft hostels and we arrived at the wrong one!

They took pity on our sleep deprived and dishevelled state and allowed us to spend the night, even buying Jim a birthday cake, which we didn‘t realise was made with ice-cream until we had been walking around with it for about an hour, but it was still delicious.

The next morning feeling slightly jet lagged, but much fresher we went in search of our original hostel this time using the bus with the locals.

Once settled in our new home we ate in the local food market, where we fed us both with big bowls of noodles or rice for less than £3 (we ate there a lot).
Next off to Raffles for birthday drinks for Jim, on route we dived in all of the shopping centres to cool off in the aircon (where Jim bought a 10$ watch, the strap broke on the same day and then died first time he took it swimming!).

In Raffles we enjoyed the most expensive drinks of our lives, £9 pint for Jim and £13 for Carla’s ‘Singapore Sling’. The birthday celebrations continued for far cheaper on the Clarke Quay, where we enjoyed seeing Singapore all lit up.

Love, J and C x

Takes me back
I remember how hectic chinatown was in singapore so can sympathize. I also remember getting to my hostel in singapore after a long train ride in the dark only to find it had closed temporarily and the owner had gone out leaving a letter tucked into the door with my name on it saying that the keys were under the mat - it was so random. Glad you had a good birthday celebration though Jim. x
