We decided to explore the garden and parkland in Osterley on 5 May, Bank Holiday. On arrival at Osterley, we had a picnic lunch on the lawn field in front of the house. There were many people having lunch, resting, and playing football.

Unlike the first Bank Holiday last year, there wasn't an event which distracted from the beauty of the garden. After showing our National Trust cards, we followed the path. There were several old trees and conifers on the site. Their branches were stretching at the very low position as though they were creeping on the ground.

There were several new borders made, there were a number of multi-coloured tulips, dark coloured tulips, blue flowers, i.e. forget me not, and some herbal plants thriving on the borders. The former kitchen garden was opened. We look round there. There were new types of tulips, orange & red wall flowers, and leafty plants. We found quite a few shrubs of rhodondendrons blooming on the east edge of the garden.

After browsing around the formal garden, we started walking to the woodland. As expected, there was a vast blue carpet on the foot of the trees. As a typical day of May, bluebells were thriving everywhere at Osterley Park. We could hear many birds singing and wild animals moving. The woodland trail led us to the riverside. We found a boat house, arch bridge, and ice house. The river's width became wider as we approached the house. There were ducks, chick, and swans swimming on the lake.

The sunny weather encouraged us to do a 1.5 mile countrywalk in Osterley. After leaving the picnic ground, we walked through the avenue, and it led us to the woodland. The biggest lake which flows from around the house stretches to the eastern edge of Osterley. We saw a brick house in the western direction, while doing the woodland trail. After leaving the shadey area, we came out to the sun dappled area, and it took us to the route along a series of grazing field. There were ginger coloured cows on the grazing field. It was inevitable to see quite a few airplanes landing or taking off in Osterley, as it's close to Heathrow Airport.

After finishing the course along the farmland, we entered the bushy field on the back of the Car Park. Umpteen nettles and wildflowers were densely grown, and it seemed that the area has been least visited in Osterley. We spotted some big trees with fungi, and some bright flowers appearing from bushes. It kept pleasant and warm in the late afternoon. We had ice cream after finishing the 1.5 mile course. We throughly enjoyed the walk in Osterley on 5 May.

Visit to Osterley
Nice blog. We visited Osterley a couple of months ago. However it was in the evening and didn't get enough time to explore it properly. Will go there again soon. http://www.trips2london.com/osterley_park_london.html
