Well here we go again, the temptation just too great, backpack is back on my back. This time
it is a little look at what South America has to offer.
Flew from Glasgow Airport via Heathrow so Rio is some Contrast. After an 11 hour flight it
was the usual customs etc but I had booked a ¨'Radio Taxi¨¨ in advance predictiing that I
would not want any hassle and sure enough a chap was there at the exit with a bit of paper with
my name spelled almost correctly. As is the grand tradition when I arrive in a strange place late
at night, the driver did not know my guesthouse but we got to what looked like the right place after
I provided the driver with the number. And the proprieter Wesley was there to haul my backpack in
and get me settled in with a welcome drink at the Lagoa Guesthouse.
Im staying four nights here near the Lagoa (Lagoon) near the Botanic Gardens, a good safe (by
Rio Standards) area and is either a pleasant walk round the Lagoon or bus ride to Ipanema etc.
Have allready done a tour which took me up
In a shroud of Mist
Christ the Redeemer, you can just make him out. to see ~the big man, Christ the Redeemer, sadly he was
shrouded in a heavy mist but we had an amazing sunny viewpoint about 300m further down that more
than made up for that with superb views all around the city inc the Maracana, Faevellas, Sugar Loaf etc.
Had a vist also to the arty bohemian yet slightly seedy ST Terese area, eating Brazillian is to eat welll!
So far so good, I have a list of things to do but in no hurry as I reckon I^ll do ten more days here until
time to move on. My attempts at Portugeese terrible.
