Venezia

Wow Venice, nothing like it on this earth. It is truely bellisima. It has a character and atmosphere like no where else I have been before. I walked and walked and caught the vaporetto everywhere. Exhausting but exhilerating at the same time. I have now decided that I don't enjoy travelling alone, I thought I would'nt mind it but I think it is so much better to have someone to share the experience with especially when having dinner. Venice is probably the easiest place in the world to get lost there are so many narrow, little alleyways to turn down and they all go in all directions, canals and bridges everywhere.
San Marco square was amazing where I spent time looking at the Doges Palace, frescos and artwork etc. I could'nt stop laughing though as the square was suffering from high water which meant that everywhere was under water. Everyone was walking on trestle like pathways so there were gigantic lines of people snaking along. I was so lucky because the day was gloriously warm and sunny so like some others I avoided the huge lines of people by slipping my shoes off and rolling my pants up and waded through the ankle depth and sometimes a bit deeper water. At the extremely classy and expensive restaurants that could still be open the white jacketed waiters were serving in gumboots. I thought it was hilarious but actually it is a severe problem in Venice on which apparently millions of euros have been spent on.
I also went to Murano where I watched the craftsmen blowing glass and today on the way back to Milan I stopped at Verona where I of course saw Romeo and Juliet's balcony of Romeo, Romeo where for art thou fame.
Now back in Milan tonight and tomorrow we are heading to Sienna for a few nights to have a small taste of Tuscany then on to Rome.

Ahhh Venice - certainly one of my favourite cities in the world. When I was there I read about the high water arrangements. That must have been weird. Enjoy Rome - also wonderful, the Vatican museum is amazing but avoid the crowds (may not be so bad this time of year) and go in the afternoon. xx

seems you liked venice dear,it sounds like it was hightide .have seen that ontv a couple of times on the news this year ,plus it has been full moon.sounds funny about waiters at restaruants.i agree about dinner by yourself .it can be a bit quiet,and here you get looks from other people as if you are a wierdo.tuscany and rome will be another adventure,so emily has made it back from germany then.did she win any drinking competitions.did boyfriend go also,.so you still have a long time to go on your holiday,ihave 12 more days to go ,still at same hotel it great going to phi phi soon probably stay one night.i have been happy to just chill out at patong.will go and see pottotnicks anthony and evette soon they are at kata

Hi Jane, Venice is a beautiful city, it sounds like you're having a great time. We are home again, holy shit, what about Hong Kong, I've never seen so many high-rise and people, but it was great. Saw Sue and Stu there, they should have arrived in Rome, just. Do you have there address there, it will be good if you could catch up with them. Had a few drinks last night with Melanie, bit seedy !!!!! and I'm about to watch the Grand Final, again. Kelvin and the boys have gone to the game. When is Paul due back?
