Golden domes inside the Kremlin. So its the end of our first day abroad!!
We spent a long day travelling yesterday flying from Heathrow to Stockholm and then onto Moscow!!
We then had to get a train into the city, the metro and its just a short walk to the hostel from there.....although we didn't know this at the time and walked straight past it!!
Our first night in the city was pretty uneventful, we had been up since 3am and was nearly 11pm Moscow time by the time we had settled in!! So we decided to have an early night and get the most out of our fist day in Moscow!!
The hostel is a diamond in the rough!! From the outside the grey door looks uninviting, once inside the stairwell was even less so - paint peeling from the walls, plaster falling from the window frame and as Sadie grazed her hand along the banister an indentation of about an inch was made in the dust!! (we should have used the lift!!)
But once inside it was like stepping into another world!! Bright colours, clean and spacious! Our dorm is so fancy it even has a chandelier!!!
So we got up

Our first view of St Basils Cathedral! and decided we'd head into the centre and towards Red Square.
We got ourselves orientated on the map and walked the short distance towards the Kremlin. Our hostel seems to be perfectly situated as it was only a short 15min walk.
The red walls of the Kremlin were right in sight, we walked the perimeter and could see some of the golden domes of the churches on the inside.
On turning the next corner, we got our first view of St Basils Cathedral, it was truly SPECTACULAR, AMAZING, AWE-INSPIRING........we couldn't take our eyes off the colourful domes, intricate detail and sheer awesomeness!!
The rest of the day was spent soaking up the atmosphere of Red Square, from Lenins Mausoleum to the tomb of the unknown soldier, complete with multiple wedding parties!! Moscow is fantastic and beautiful, the perfect amalgamation of east meets west! The architecture alone is well worth the 3am wake up call!!
