Well. What a whirlwind weekend it was for me! I dont think Laura really liked Dubai but I loved it! We went to the top of the worlds highest building (the al khalifa towers), walked thru the longest aquarium tunnel and even dined at a 7 star hotel which has the worlds highest atrium. It costs about 8000 dollars per night if you were to actually stay there. Also visible was Palm Island, an artificially created island in the Red Sea that is the shape of a palm tree.. check google maps! We also went skiing at their indoor ski slope which was really nice. They had a luge track, a sledding place and even sold chairlift rides for those new to skiing. It seemed like a cool date seen amoung the Emiratis. The malls were huge! One had 1300 stores; not to mention the ice rinks and cinemas. They also had a coreographed fountain show on the half hour at the waterfront promenade. The water even shot up over 500 feet in firework like bursts. All in all it was an amaazing weekend. I would say that Dubai is like Manhatten (NYC) and Las Vegas combined. Luckily we were couchsurfing
so we didnt need to budget for lodging, as it was hella expensive! Think Norway prices! Definately a place to return to (maybe the first I have said this on the trip). We have arrived now safe and sound in Sri Lanka.

wish you could lable your pictures
Gee I wish you could lable your pictures. Some are really mysterious, like this first one. I have no idea what that is or it is big like a mountain or small. If it had followed the photo of the toilet that you took I would have had a better idea. I take it you didn't get to Adu Dhabi. We saw a show on Dubai recently and noticed that the restaurants etc were pretty much empty these days., now that the economy has turned. How did you find it? The ski slope looks great. We didn't like Sri Lanka much but did enjoy a safari and going to a tea and spice plantation. Of course it was a whole lot safer in those days and there has been a tsunami since then so has probably changed a lot.
