Orientation continued today leaving the group plenty of free time to explore. This gave me a chance to begin my education in Chinese transportation. Right of way for example is slightly different that the larger vehicle always has the right of way. Also if you beep your horn you aren't liable for any damages incurred on those who don't get out of the way.

The subway however is very convenient, as it is only 30 or so cents per trip and you can get a card to hold your money rather then buying a new ticket every time. Several of us took the subway to the People's Revolution Museum which was wonderfully stocked with ancient swords, modern missiles and tanks and propaganda. We Americans especially enjoyed the exhibit on the War of United States aggression (Korean War).

Tonight the some of us went out for dinner in DongCheng Yu, the more affluent eastern district in comparison with our home in XiCheng Yu in the west. We got Mexican food of all things and then went to a couple of bars. I had little money at this point so I passed on the alcohol but at the first place we

played an interesting dice game, which my partner and I won handily. The second place was very cool. Situated on a roof-top it had mambo or salsa music, I wasn't sure which, and a dance floor.

Taking a taxi at the end of the night gave me 3/3 on main methods of transportation, counting walking as the third. The taxi's are quite cheap, costing only 30 kuai ($5) to get back across town.

Note: I have been eliminating bodies of water from consideration as possible rowing spots and have decided to try the dragon boat at Houhai Lake. They have open practices on Sundays at 4:30 P.M. and I'm looking forward to it.

it is a good thing you didn't take too much stuff along. your room looks very small. Do your feet hang over the end of the bed? Looks like you enjoyed the missiles. it's fun to see the pictures. you will have to get one with you in it sometime.
