Day 5-Sinaia, Romania to Ruse, Bulgaria
8/21/10
I guess I will only report the weather when it is not perfect. Our forecast has been ‘chance of rain’ most days but ideal in reality. Let’s hope it stays that way.
Editorial note: I just realized that I uploaded all the photos of the day rather than just the ones that I chose to upload. so, you will have to see the good and bad. Maybe even see duplicates. Sorry but I don't have time to edit. I'm in a restaurant with wi-fi and time is running out to get back to the boat.
This was a moving day. This means we packed the suitcases and left them outside our rooms in the morning as we went down to breakfast. The plan was to return to Bucharest to join the main body of the tour.
We had 33 people in our pre-trip to Sinaia. Another 70 or so American tourists met us today. The entire group will sail up the Danube from Ruse to Budapest over the next 10 days. Then we will travel up to Prague for a few nights before flying back to Atlanta. Some of

Our Romanian guide, Hunor Nagy, explains the church fresco. the people are flying back from Budapest and a few others are staying on this ship all the way to Amsterdam! They will spend altogether 28 nights on the ship.
Before leaving Sinaia, we stopped by to see the monastery located there. It was built in 1695. Its existence led to the development of the village. Which then led to the royal palace and the rest is history.
After this stop we headed south to meet the new passengers in Bucharest and then on to board the ship. We got to Bucharest at noon and met the other people at a huge, modern shopping mall. We were surprised to see Starbucks, Nine West Shoe Store, Lacoste, and Tommy Hilfiger stores. The stores were well stocked and I bought a tee shirt. We had lunch at the mall which left us without much time to shop. From the mall we headed to the ship.
The ship was docked in the city port of Ruse, Bulgaria. We arrived about 2:30pm and upon boarding, we were given our room keys. After cleaning up a little we then attended a welcome ceremony, with the obligatory welcome drink. Our crew was introduced

Even the simpliest churches have wonderful art. including the captain.
The day ended with a dinner in the very nice restaurant on board. We were happy with our room and the other amenity areas of the ship. It is funny that now that we are in a bigger group, we are hanging only with those that went with us to Sinaia. The other people seem like strangers.
Tomorrow we are to be bussed over to Varna, a Bulgarian resort town on the Black Sea. There we will board sail boats for a 2-3 hour sail in the sea. The drive to Varna is over two hours so it will be a long day. Hopefully, something interesting will make it worth the trip.
Stay tuned,

Sailing!
Delighted that you made it to Bulgaria... boy, the sailboat trip sounds super and can't wait to hear about your day sailing - which I know you love! Tell us about the wines - are they good? Reds better than whites? send photos of the boat and your room!
