After a good night’s sleep we woke up to go and explore some of the immediate San Francisco area.
Breakfast is included here at the Mayflower Hotel which we forgot to mention yesterday is a hotel that was built in 1929. The building is obviously very old but has so much character which is very much what this city is like with all its old pretty and attractive buildings. The breakfast is simple but everything that we need. There are hard-boiled eggs, toast, homemade bikkies, cakes and muffins, cereals, fruit, juice, tea and coffee.
We headed out onto the street where the weather was still overcast and the wind was very cold. We made our way to one of the cable car lines but Stu read the map wrong and we ended up going the opposite way which was a bugger. We sorted out which way to go and ended up at the Bay street line, along with half of San Francisco waiting for the cable car. We decided to catch a Muni Tram where we got on straight away and headed down to Fishermans Wharf. The ride took about 20 mins to get there and we hopped off
at pier 39. We walked to where we picked up our Go Cards. Abby purchased our Go cards online before we left which gave us heaps of things to do and a lot of included attraction admission to all the places we are going to in and around San Francisco.
We firstly decided to hop on the Golden Gate Bay Cruise which took us out into the Harbour and along North Beach. We headed under the Golden Gate Bridge where the views we just stunning and the size of it just blew us away. We headed back along Angel Island State Park and around Alcatraz Island where we stopped for some pictures. This Island prison has so much history and stories that go with it, just being there seeing it was eerie and amazing. Unfortunately because we didn’t pre-book the Alcatraz tour it is currently booked out for 2 weeks, so we have booked in to go on Alcatraz on our way back from Montana.
After we got back to the wharf we had some lunch at Boudin restaurant where they make the world famous sourdough bread and we had clam chowder and a beef-chilli. Yum Yum!!!
After
Lunch we headed to the Wax Museum at Fishermans Wharf. We went through the museum and were amazed how lifelike the statues were. They had done a very good job. There was everyone from Hitler to Albert Einstein to Steve Irwin and Nicole Kidman. At the end of the tour Danika had a wax handmade. We just hope it makes it home in 1 piece.
We headed up to pier 39 and had a look at some of the shops and gift shops. We decided to go into the Aquarium of the Bay where you walk into an underwater aquarium full of sharks, sting rays and heaps of other aquatic animals, it was really good. We headed back to catch the Muni back into Union Square where we hopped off and took a few pics. We soon carried on up to where the hotel was and we walked passed a Dr Seuss Art Gallery. We had a look and it was really cool to see his artwork and sculptures. Some of the artwork was amazing and the girls enjoyed looking at all the pictures that they knew.
We got back to the hotel and had showers. Stu headed
out to get some Japanese for dinner. The girls got ready for bed. The Japanese was really nice.
