Today is July 4th and I am in Australia. Kinda of a weird thing. It will be strange thinking of everyone back home having cookouts and fireworks and spending a ton of time together while I am here in a country that probably few people have even heard of the reason behind the celebration in the US. Anyways, we were supposed to go out on the water today but I woke up at 9:30 to a gorgeous day and Daniele at work at his computer. Then I looked outside; windy as hell. It’s very rare that we see wind at our place, and we know that when we do it’s a bad day to go out on the water. At one point I went into the front yard to sit in the sun and saw a bush bird attacking a window of a car because he thought that the reflection of himself was some sort of intruder.

Today another researcher, Alvaro, flies in. He does acoustic work on the dolphins and will be with us until September. I am really excited about seeing the work he does, as acoustics has always interested me. There is nothing like seeing the dolphins above the water then being able to hear them underneath. One of the papers I read yesterday explained and listed all the different types of noises these guys make. All of the names of the sounds are named because of how they sound if a human were to make that sound. There are whistles, clicks, groans, pops and a few other not so common sounds.

We are going to pick him up at the airport and then possibly might be going out on the water tomorrow!
