As you can imagine, after the night I had last night, I was a little slow risin' and shinin' this morning. I am seriously getting too old for that mess and eventually I'm gonna realize it ! Tim was being so sweet to me this morning cause he knew my head was pounding and it was going to be a rough day for me. He made me some breakfast and I slowly began to gather my thoughts and once I had my shower I was good to go. I was excited about getting to tour the Harry & David factory here in Medford, OR so I got myself together and called to get our tickets. Oh no, I was so upset.........they were closed for the holiday until Thursday !! I can't believe it, I was looking forward to seeing how all that yummy stuff is made and getting to sample all of it too. Well dang, looks like we'll be heading straight over to Crater Lake. Tim pulled out his map and planned our route and off we went in search of our destination. We eventually made it to the entrance of the lake and we stopped off by the gift shop before heading on up. We bought each of us a new t-shirt and a few other things and then we were off. It was a good little drive up but soon we turned the corner and I caught my first glimpse of that gorgeous blue water in Crater Lake. I had read the brochure and pamphlet they gave us at the gate but nothing could prepare you for how really blue this water is. I have never in my life seen anything so blue. The sun was shining on the lake and the water was glistening and it was just so beautiful. As I was staring at it, Tim pulled over and we got out to get a closer look. We both just stood there and gazed at the lake in amazement. The entire area is covered with snow and it's just beautiful. We took a few pictures and walked up to the top to get a better view but we had to make it quick. We were both in shorts and flip flops and it was freezing up there. The wind was blowing and I mean it was really really cold. We drove on around the 33 mile road that takes you all the way around the lake making several stops along the way. Tim found a few more ground squirrels and even some birds to feed this time. We stopped at a HUGE mound of snow and took a few pictures and then continued on to see what was on the other side of the lake. Each time we stopped, the lake was more beautiful and the water looked more blue. They offer 2 hour boat tours but we opted not to do it this time. We stood in awe and wondered what it would be like to swim in the lake in water that blue but Kayla texted me and said it was 38 degrees so that definitely wasn't happening today. The brochure says that you can fish and swim in the lake if you want to hike down there and if you can bear the cold. The lake is 1943 feet deep so I was trying to figure out how you could actually catch any of the trout or salmon that live in Crater Lake. I guess there's no "bottom fishing" going on. We continued on the road stopping to admire the beauty and to take several pictures along the way. Once we were done, we made our way out of the park and off towards Bend, OR. We were hoping to make it all the way there tonight and luckily we did. We stopped for dinner in some small town on the route but we eventually ended up in the Wal-Mart parking lot in Bend. We plan on checking out what's here tomorrow and then heading on off to our next adventure. It's really cold here tonight so we'll probably have to cut the heat on again. Take care and enjoy the beautiful pictures of Crater Lake ! :-)
