Hi all!!
Writing to you from a service station outside Vienna, having 30 mins to fill before my shower is available.- e3 .50 and a free cup of coffee on return of key!!Free internet access also so just about all one requires for a great overnight stop.(Marche services). My boot is virtually full with clothes, toys etc as donations so I am sleeping on top of more (vacuum - packed clothes) in the back seat.Got a reasonable sleep(8 hrs) and can't wait to motor on to home.Trying out the Serbia route again as a 'dry run' before winter.Hope i don't get the bother i had when i dirst came to Bulgaria. Given it is already 15oC at 6.30 it is likely to be another scortcher today.Yesterday was mainly driven at between 18-31 deg and consisted of Dunkirk(3am) to Vienna,(8pm). So an excellent drive if hot requiring more stops than usual.
So to turn the clock back 4 weeks i left Boyana on 31st May at 2pm and after a look around Liege and it's nearby mill exhibit, I headed for Dunkirk. Arriving at 10pm on 2nd June I was able to get the midnight boat across(Previous one to my booking.) I
was heading for the Birkenhead boat to go to Belfast for 4 days to be at a (surprise)30th birthday party for Stewart. He thought i was coming for my birthday and so he didn't suspect anything. After a great 4 days i got the boat back to Birkernhead and set off for Cornwall where the second part of my adventure was to be completed.... now this will be completed when back in Boyana as shower is ready.
Ok. Well Serbia was uneventful and I actually made it to Bulgaria in 2 days. Now R+R complete and back in action.Animals and plants very much in good order after 2 weeks of rain in June for latter. Most of the clothes(some 7 black bags )have now been distributed and everyone in the family has asked me to convey their gratitude. Now waiting for New Year and next batch!Look out Belfast - aidmobile there in December.
So to continue my adventures.Cornwall produced the best weather in many years with only half a day's rain and warm and sunny or warm and overcast.I found my way to a new beach and also spent 3 days on the old one. After those 4 days I had
mostly managed to connect with the 'beach gang' of previous years.1 person conspicuously absent was Danny who could always be counted on to be there someday. Unfortunately it later came to light that he had been in and out of hospital since Easter with liver cancer and bowel cancer .This unfortunately as the primary site produced no warning symptoms so it was already too late by the time the liver was diagnosed.I managed to arrange to see him at the house on Monday14th where we had a lovely hour and a half reminising. It was great to be able to openly discuss the situation and I have to say he has certainly got a positive attitude to the situation. He hopes that he will be able to see his 4th grandchild due in September.I fervently hope he can.As I said 'only the good die young' so could see you next year! As the next day was his birthday Wendy(friend and now carer) had arranged for him to visit Eden with his daughter,son-in-law and grandchild so we arranged to meet over lunch as I was also going to be there. So 2 great times to remember in the coming years.Unfortunately Reg's wife
Elsie had also died and he was no longer in Camborne. Everyone else I wanted to see I saw with the exception of trish and shifty. Most people I saw twice which was great.I was at Eden on 4 occasions and at the Seal Sanctuary as well as 2 new Devonshire places :Pennywell Farm and the Plymouth aquarium with my neice and great neice. The full day I also saw Dave(after work). The second day was a short interlude on my way to the boat.Managed to see Ron and Kit and Tony at the pottery and Paula as well as many happy evenings with my second family(Cornwall) -Dave and Rachel. All in all a very packed 3 weeks with much more joy than sadness I'm pleased to say. I am attaching a few photos to this account.
