Our last few days at the Tropical Dojo were quite good fun. On Friday, after the morning meditation, yoga and animal feeding, Theo and Carol (a couple visiting one of Noe's neighbours, Bunny) drove us an hour up in to the hills to Noe's mountain retreat. He owns five hectares on a hill that borders a beautiful river. The house is very basic, but has everything you need. It made me feel like we were going bear hunting out in the wild (not that they have bears in Costa Rica... I think).
We chilled there for a bit, the boys had a swim in the river while Carol and I talked about her fabric import business from India. She is a PIO, Person of Indian Origin, and learnt how to dye fabric from her grandfather. She now lives in New York, as does Theo.
Willy came with us and had lots of fun climbing the fruit trees. Noe and Willy became quite good friends in the end, in fact, I think Noe was after keeping Willy. We had to keep a close eye on him to make sure that he left with us!
In the evening we went
to a BBQ party at Bunny's house. The food was lovely and the people very nice. One guy in particular was excellent company, right on my wavelength. Well as it turns out the next day he hadn't been invited by the host and had caused a bit of upset by being there. The locals are a bit fed up of him as he doesn't have a house, they keep on finding him sleeping where he shouldn't and he's in to conspiracy theories that have started to rule his life. Trust muggins here to make friends with the local crazy.
The next day I was invited to a ladies gathering at another neighbours house. I was a bit apprehensive about going, but I braved it and went. To be honest it was a little bit too girly for me. I went for a walk around the grounds, which were stunning. There was the biggest bamboo I have ever seen, about the size of a four storey building next to a river that seemed to fill you with a hippy love for nature. When I came back I was to be chief photographer for the event. Finding it slightly awkward photographing
Sheryl on the loo..
Not the most private, but handy for having a chat. people I've never met before I slipped out and joined the boys for a beer and watched the England match (much more up my street).
Well, our time has finished with the Tropical Dojo. It was an experience never to be forgotten; the people, animals, goat meditation, hippies, yoga, Noe, Bunny, Carol, scorpions, the most beautiful views from a stunning house and the baby rabbits that were born on our last morning there.
Yesterday we set off for the big city, San Jose. We're staying in Hostel Galileo, a funky little party hostel on the edge of town. Today we walked pretty much the length of the city to pay for the turtle conservation which starts on Wednesday.
San Jose has slight similarities with London with the size of the roads, big shiny international branded shops and the amount of cars and people. Being back in a city feels kind of good, it's been a while. A vast difference to the coming week where we'll be going to a reserve that can only be accessed by a boat and has no electricity/forms of communication. It's exciting and scary at the same time. I'm sure it'll be a
breeze compared to extremo zip lining though!
It’s lovely to hear about what you’re up to as well, so don’t forget to email and keep us updated.
Missing you all
Lots of love
