We spent a couple of days at the tip. Shenton went fishing the first morning with the bikers and they had a great time, even though the water was a bit rough so they didnt catch as much as usual. They did get two beautiful fish which we all ate for breakfast the next day. The guide also took them to see some of the Islands where they fish for pearls and there are old graves of Japanese pearl divers from the past. You can still work there if you wish, they are always looking for people apparently if anyone fancies a job at the tip of Australia. The waters are extremely dangerous with various different animals from crocs to sharks and stingers etc so I wouldnt fancy a job there. The fishing guide told them that Bear Grylls has just landed on one of the Islands up here to do one of his survival stunts, lucky for him Jurasic Jack the 7 meter croc lives in a creek just down from our campsite on the mainland and not on the Islands. Though there are still plenty more around for him to conted with.
While Shenton was fishing I went
with Dave (one of the bikers) to get the tyre fixed in Bamaga and you can see how many good cars get wrecked on the way up the scrap yard was full of them.
Friday night and we went out to the local fishing club where everyone seemed to be, there was a live band and the biker boys all thought they were stitching me up by asking the band if I could sing with them. They called me up but they didnt know any of my songs so I couldnt sing with them, what the boys dont understand is I would have loved to sing with the band, the audience might not have loved it, but I would have!
Shenton has been growing his beard now for one month, before we head off to the Tip he shaves the beard part and reveals the most amazing Mo I have ever seen! As we are having breakfast with the bikers they are all winding me up telling him he looks good and Shenton is playing along saying he is going to keep the tash. I am not happy as this tash is really freaking me out now. The
Local band
if only they knew stand by your man I would have been singing with them.... Mo does make it to the Tip and I really hope he is going to shave it off soon.....
Saturday morning we left the camp and drove the last 40km of track to the actual tip. On the way we stopped at the "croc tent" which is literaly a tent on the track where you buy all the souveniers to show you made it to the tip. I got a sticker to go on the back of my guitar with all the others, and a bangel make of sea snake skin.
Once we get to the parking for the tip there is a short hike over the rocks, this hike over the rocks is amazing as you start to see the water on both sides of you and you can really see you are on "the Tip". We took the fishing rod and my guitar as I am going to do a "concert" at the tip while Shenton does some fishing. When we get there, there are already some of the other biker group taking pictures. Great I have an audience.... They all seem keen to hear my music so I play a couple of songs for them
and I really think I must be the first person to perform at the tip of Australia.
One of the other bikers calls up to tell us we have left our light on so we cant stay too long and the current is so strong here that Shenton cant really do any fishing. It feels amazing to get here and the trip really is worth it.
When we get back to the car, word has got out about my concert and all of the other bikers (about 20 of them) want to hear a song. I am keen to perform to all of them but Shenton wont go and get my guitar so they miss out. They tell us they are on Chanel 27 on the CB radio so I say I will give them some songs over the airwaves as we all travel back. They are all really happy about this but unfortunaltely the trees are too dense so they can't hear me! We drive on to Somerset beach which is beautiful and from here on it is South all the way back to Cairns.
Well it was the MoJo and the Tank that got us
to the Tip, I hope the tank will get us back but I also hope the Mo goes.........
