The drive from Carins to Port Douglas along the coast was amazing. It is appaently the second best coastal drive in Australia and it really was breathtaking. It didnt take long to drive to Port Douglas and as we got there we realised it is only a very small place. We found a campsite very close to town and also on the 4 mile beach.

Got organised in the afternoon and booked our Great Barrier Reef trip for tomorrow. Then headed onto the beach to do a walk up the headland, no swimming here as we are now entering crocodile country so the ocean is out of bounds!

The trip to the reef started early with a 1 1/2 hour boat ride out to the pontoon in the middle of the ocean, we chose to do the trip here as this one goes far out and the further out you go apparently there will be more to see. The sea was very rough so the boat was all over the place but for once I didnt actually get sea sick.

As we arrived on the pontoon Shenton went for a dive, the first one he has done since Cayman, he was the only one going for a dive. He saw loads of fish and beautiful coral and got up very close to a flowery cod. The guys on the boat said that in the year and a half he had been working there he had never seen a diver get that close to that fish (apart from the workers on the boat). It seems there is a shortage of Dive Masters here so Shenton could get a job no problem, dont think I would want to live here though as there is not much going on.......

I went to the semi submersible boat and took a trip under the water that way. I saw loads of different fishes, starfish, giant clams and jelly fish. Had a great lunch on the boat, we ate loads as we have been living on processed food for ages so it was nice to have something freshly cooked.

After lunch we pulled on our lycra skins to protect us from the jelly fish and did some snorkelling, the water was a bit rough but we got quite far out and swam with loads of fish and in amoungst lots of different types of coral. The trip was great and really was well worth doing.
