Sitting in Flores and catching up

Well, there has not been much opportunity to blog from Gautemala. Internet cafes are few and far between, though there are plenty here in Flores.

I want to go back and post date entries for what we have done each day as we have been very busy.

We went to Copan in Honduras and spent two nights there. We explored the ruins. We drank Margaritas. We exeperienced a tropical storm. After that we went to Quirigua which I never did learn to say. No one there spoke English though the shop next to the hotel sold beer. We explored the ruins. There was an immense storm.

From there we travelled to Livingstone where we ate lunch. Then on to a lovely retreat - Hotelito Perdito - down the river and into the jungle. Run by extremely friendly people. We took a kayak out for half a day. Ashley´s cast kept safe but we ended up sinking the kayak. Cast and passports stayed safe. The camera was the casualty. We emptied the kayak and returned to the hotelito. Where we passed a very hot and steamy night with strange winds. It was, apparently, odd weather.

We then spent a day travelling to Fores. The boat up to the bus stop was a lot of fun - bumpy and breezy. The bus to Flores was late and very crowded. I ended up standing nearly all the way.

Flores itself is tourist central. Hence internet. But very pleasant. Yesterday we went to Tikal which is.... Something else entirely. Immense ruins (they´ve dug up some of the big stuff) and loads of wildlife. We saw coati, spider monkeys, occelated turkeys, parrots and two kinds of toucan (along with other animals yet to be identified). We saw a proper guiness toucan living wild. Totally amazing!

I am going to try to pull the photos from my phone now then go back with backdated pictorial entries.
