BUDAPEST Day 75
Bus… train… rain rain rain
BUDAPEST Day 76
Had the strangest night last night! I arrived to my hostel and seemed to be the only girl in the whole place, which doesn’t really bother me. I was in a room with 4 guys, there was a room attached to ours with another 5 guys in it and a room down the hall with maybe another 5 guys in it. So I was chatting with the Mexican and German guys in my room. They were heading out for drinks but I had spent that lovely night on the bus so I decided to stay in and get to bed early. The boys left and I went to bed. At about 2 in the morning I hear some one near my bed so I assume it is the boys returning from their beers. Then I hear someone on top of my bunk bed throwing the blankets and pillow around. Then I feel someone tap my leg. So I roll over and it is some guy making the hand gestures to symbolize a book. So I am guessing he has lost his book, somehow in the
vicinity of my bed. I told him there was not a book here. He pulled up my blankets and my pillow to look underneath. I, half asleep, let him do this search hoping he would realize there was no book and return to his own room, as he was not from our room. He leaves my bed alone but continues to wander around the room for a good ten minutes. The entire time I am thinking “why on earth can’t this wait until the morning?” He leaves and I roll back over to go back to sleep.
Next thing I know I feel a hand on my ass! So I quickly roll over and find the same guy sitting on my bed. So I sit up and say “NO BOOK” and he says “kiss?”, which I quickly countered with “NO I AM TRYING TO SLEEP”. Well he thought that that was a great idea and tried to crawl in under the blankets with me. I grabbed the blankets away from him and made hand motions and said “shooo shooo… go away”. The whole time I am thinking in my head that if I scream the boys will wake up
and kill this guy but I figured he didn’t seem threatening and after a couple times of saying shooo and making hand motions to leave he up and left. And I went back to sleep slightly confused.
The next morning I asked the guys if they heard anything and told them the story to which they replied, “why didn’t you scream we would have woken up and beat the shit out of him”. So that was my odd evening. The day that followed was far more normal.
My first stop on my day tour of Budapest was the Hero’s square that leads into a nice park area. In the park is the Vajdahunyad castle. The castle is really nice and houses a museum. The whole road leading towards Hero’s square has some really lovely buildings with the elaborately painted exteriors. From this road I headed on to the Basilica of St.Stephen. There happened to be something being filmed here so there were some areas blocked off.
I crossed the Danube to head over to the old part of Budapest. From the bridge you can get great views of the parliament and castle hill. I could even see
the beautifully tiled roof of the castle up top of the hill. I made the very long walk up castle hill with my full pack and all. I made it to the top and had a great view of Budapest below. I really love the tiled roofs. I find it so interesting to see these really detailed pieces on things that are as basic as a roof. I wandered around on top of castle hill for a few hours before making my way back down.
Back at the bottom of the hill I followed the Danube towards the citadel. By this point I was far to tired to climb another massive hill covered in staircases so I opted for taking some photos from the base and then making my way to the train station for dinner before my next night train.
On my train ride I was accompanied by Ira from Moscow who was returning home from Italy for a few weeks on a study break. She was very nice company to have for the journey.
