Woke up to blazing sunshine and decided after breakfast to catch the ferry from McMahon’s point to Darling Bay. The trip was fantastic with a great view of the Harbour and Bay for us to survey and get our bearings; we had no known plans but wanted to stroll around the area as all was new to us.
Darling Harbour is the gateway to places of interest, shops, museums, parks and gardens. We decided to go and look around the Chinese Gardens of friendship which happened to have a culture day on with Chinese dancing, marital arts, music and art work. The gardens formed a beautiful relaxing haven from a busy city to relax in and have tea. We enjoyed the company of a dragon lizard that was quite content shading from the sun in the middle of the tea rooms - pickies to follow.
We then went to the China Town of Sydney to take in the ambiance of oriental cooking and food shops. After wards we stumbled on to Paddy’s Market the biggest indoor market which I have ever been in. As a shopaholic I was struck dumb at the size and wares that were being sold.
Feet aching we decided to make our way back however somehow found the main shopping drag for the heart of Sydney. Unfortunately we were too tired to take a look which was saying something as I can shop for England, and thought we had better leave it for another day - a first for me I know. Especially as Myers was beckoning.
We caught the ferry back to the apartments and chilled out with a glass of vino and more spectacular views.

On our return the email was checked and I learned from Fiona that our Uncle David died last night. Poor Brian and Fiona had been up most of the night sorting it out. Thankfully he chose that night and not when we were out on the town.

My brother then got in touch and summarised his views on our travels as follows.

“Phil and Wendy continue their curse:
Visit Melbourne, and they get biblical hailstones.
Visit the Barrier Reef, and an oil tanker runs aground threatening hundreds of miles of coastal coral
Visit the Hamilton islands, they get a cyclone,
Visit you, and uncle David dies.
Sooner they come home the better.....or maybe not...!!”

At present there also appears to be a coup being staged in Thailand so who knows what may occur there.

We remain optimistic and looking forward to our trip.

From Brian and Fiona
Glad you are having such good weather in Sydney and enjoying it all. So very pleased the hotel was a success too. The weather here in Adelaide has been very overcast since you left with a few showers of rain which is brilliant - so thankyou Eastmen! Brian loves your photos of Sydney but feels they are not quite up to his brilliant standard and it serves you right as you should have taken him with you! Continue to enjoy yourselves - we miss you heaps - the house is very quiet ! Fiona xx
