Not too much to say about this part of our trip. Our aim was to get to Bolivia as quickly as possible but without being totally knackered when we arrived.

We decided to fly back down to Sao Paulo, have a night out there and then take a bus to Campo Grande and catch a connecting bus to Corumba at the Bolivian border.

While in Sao Paulo, back at Lime Time, we decided to break the trip up with a stop in Bonito which is a jumping off point for Panatal trips as well as having loads of other interesting day trips.

So after an overnight luxuary sleeper bus from SP to Campo Grande we took a local bus another 6 hours to Bonito and checked into the HI (hostelling international) there where we finally decided it would be worth it to get an HI card. We were a little peeved when we were allocated a "senior" card and even more so when we noticed the picture of an old man on the front! However, the old man was on all the cards issued there, some commemorative 100 year thing and we really are much older than your average youth hostel guest so we´ve dealt with it.

On first glimpse the hostel, which we´d chosed because it has a tour office & all tours in Panatal region are fixed price by the local government, was pretty good. However, when we went to get info about the (actually pretty expensive) tours we found that the staff couldn´t really be bothered and so we decided not to bother and just hire a bike to go visit the local municipal pool where you could snorkell with and feed the numerous fishes, see photos. We hooked up with a lovely Kiwi girl called Emily for the day trip and had a great day out. The 7 km each way cycle was a nice bit of excercise and despite the bikes being more than a little bit ropey no one was injured.

So after a 2nd day of chilling we booked an early bus to the border town and headed off to Bolivia.

After looking out vigilantly for them around Bonita we finally saw some toucans on the bus journey. We didn´t get any snaps but they were pretty impressive to see.
