I re-named my elephant Howard, despite him actually being a lady. Elephant poo is massive and just kind of floats around you when you take them to be washed in the river. Howard tried to roll me off into it a few times but i clung on for dear life!
To say the accomodation was basic is an understatement. On the 2nd night i felt a cockroach crawl over my hand (Joe i think i spoke too soon about the lack of cockroaches so far!). I nearly broke that night and spent the early hours cowering in the corner with my headtorch and a flip flop as my weapon of choice :0(
The toilet was a hole in the ground and the shower was a bucket and ladel. I wont even get started on the ant covered chopping board! The villagers were lovely, took me on an elephant safari and we stopped by the river to go fishing and made a campfire. One day we paddled 2km down River Chi in boats. At the end i was aked what i wanted to do next, "maybe ride a buffalo?"!!! only in Thailand.
Luckily there was one other English volunteer
for a few days so i had someone to talk to, even if one night i talked Thai in my sleep apparently! Outside our house was a banana plantation and Maisey and i were shown how to harvest rice, which was made even harder by being forced to wear stupid hats.
Hope you enjoy the pic's, especially the ones of me trying to climb on Howard, its easier than i make it look.
