The Alhambra

GRANADA Day 26

Woke up from my first really good sleep after spending a week in Morocco. Since the train line was still under repair they had a bus take us from Algeciras to the next available train station that was beyond the repair area. The view from the bus in the area of Ronda to Almager was stunning. It was a mountainous area almost craggy looking but there were beautiful olive and cherry blossom trees all over. It is a view I wouldn’t have been able to catch from the train so it is a blessing that the line was down and I was able to catch the view from the bus.

I arrived in Granada at about noon. The city is beautiful. It is a place where you could just wander about all day long and see many different things. Since it is in a mountain area a lot of the city walking can be a steep climb uphill but it is still amazing. Also, since Granada was ruled by Muslims for a couple centuries there is a lot of Arab influence in the architecture and food culture. The Alhambra, which is the castle that the

Muslim leaders ruled from, is a beautiful example of the Arab decoration. I decided not to pay to go into the Alhambra but walked around the free areas and also went to a great place to get a full view of the Alhambra.

On top of the beautiful buildings and monuments there is also an amazing street art culture around Granada. There is the regular graffiti all over but there is also some stunning portraits and murals. You could spend a whole day wandering the city just looking at the street art.

After walking for a few hours I headed back to the hostel to make some dinner and relax with some girls that I had met during my stay in Lisbon.
