Me getting to sit in front with out bus driver, enjoying the winding road.
Monday was the last day of our tour. We drove to Nelson Falls, and checked out the scenery. Unfortunately, we had some really windy roads that day. When it comes to being a passenger, I have a tendency to get a little motion sick. Being on the smaller buses usually helps but the constant swaying was tough. All it meant though was that I’d get the privilege to sit up in the front, which meant a better view out the front window!

We had lunch at Lake St Clair. There were tons of other backpackers there, but these guys were serious. In fact, the majority of them were just completing a several day long trek from Cradle Mountain! Talk about a journey. Afterwards we saw some more waterfalls and walked through some great rainforests. In fact, it even started to rain. How about that.

We finished off our tour on a high note by spotting the totally rare platypus in the wild! These things had been hard enough to see at all the zoos we’d been to, so finding one swimming around in the water was simply amazing! In fact, these things are nocturnal, so we were lucky that

Not too far from Hobart now.
the weather was sort of crappy and cloudy. It was constantly swimming around in a stream, eating off the bottom of the stream, and then floating on the top for a few seconds to breathe. The pics didn’t turn out great, but it’s something we’ll always remember. That night back in Hobart, we finished the day off by having seafood with some of our tour mates.

Tuesday we did our best to relax. We checked out the city a bit, and walked down to the port to see the water. In the evening, we met up with Hillary’s cousins Erin and Cam, along with their two kids, Ian and Alexa. This fun loving family was in the middle of enjoying a four week Australia vacation, and we just happened to all be in Hobart at the same time! We took advantage of their generosity by doing some laundry at their place and then all went out for some great pizza. It’s amazing how you can be on the other side of the world and yet it could feel just like home.

Wednesday was our final day in Tasmania. Hillary and I took this opportunity to take a short

tour up to the top of Mt Wellington. What a view! Unfortunately it was a bit cloudy, but then again it was kind of cool to see the clouds rolling along the top of the mountain. Back in the city, we grabbed a quick dinner and were back at the airport flying Tiger Airways to Melbourne. Within no time, we were back at the Oasis Melbourne hostel trying to get a decent night’s rest before heading out to Canberra!
