So it's funny, I started the last blog with "its been hellishly cold" and I was so wrong. That wasn't even close. Snow has been falling for weeks, endless snow storms, snow up so high the car can't drive through it, and more snow on top. Booo! On the plus side we got some really nice wedding photos because the lakes were frozen over!
Our wedding was on January 9, bringing in 2010 with a flash of classy fun, as we both wore top hats, mine a mini top hat and Dzl's a custom made proper top hat. Dzl wore his tails and looked very handsome and I wore a black satin dress, its second use, after a ball in Lund a couple years ago. We had a wonderful time, we got ready in the morning and did just fine, having broken all the rules and done a dress rehearsal together a few days before. We got all dressed and went to a hotel near city hall to meet Rikke and Mads, the Best Man and Bridesmaid respectively. Rikke wore a beautiful Victorian style outfit with a red skirt she had made herself, and Mads wore his classic suspenders, bowler
hat and high heels look.
We had some coffee, took a ton of photos and headed off to city hall. Copenhagen's city hall is beautiful, with painted rooms throughout, apparently painted by a very famous Danish painter who took years to decide on the concept alone before beginning the work. He died before the work was completed but it was completed to his specifications, and is beautiful - the paintings depict different romantic fables, a new story on each wall.
For our wedding, we of course had to be a bit geeky, and so we did. We created a bouquet, now called "Cold Feet - the Interactive Wedding Bouquet" which has reached internet famedom to an extent in the land of the geeks (yay) and is being paraded around Brazilian wedding fairs at the moment. Basically, it measured emotional response (excited/nervous or calm), heart rate and then recorded all the data throughout the day. When I got 'nervous' the bouquet turned white and when I was relaxed it turned blue. It made for a really fun day as right before our actual marriage moment, it was white then blue then white then blue and so on it was
a lot of fun and made the day really fantastic.
The ceremony itself was incredible - I didn't know if I should expect an office with paper signing or ... well, what we got. What we got was a beautifully lit room with paintings on the walls and a beautiful setting. The justice of the peace had red hair which was lit from behind by some spot lights so it even looked like she was glowing, and she was so happy! It was a great experience, and made all the better by our happiness and excitement, we were grinning like fools.
After the ceremony I insisted on taking a million photos (I needed to send them home and show all my online, not in Denmark friends!) and we finally went to lunch at this Italian restaurant we like in Sankt Hans Torv. It was good as usual, they have awesome food and despite a minor bridezilla moment on my part (swiftly attended to by Dzl's mom who leapt in and paid the bill before I strangled the waiter for screwing up the bill) we had a great time and said cheers to Grappa, which I'm seemingly a fan
of since I keep finding and drinking it.
Afterwards we took some very hasty family and friends photos in the square, everyone was freezing to death so we parted quickly, stopped by the lakes for a photo and then went to Glyptoteket for photos. It was magnificent. We had a great day and are looking forward to celebrating even more with a party on the barge in the summer followed by a trip to Canada to have a ceremony with my parents there.
All in all a great decision, a wonderful day and something we're still being all horrible and mushy about calling each other husband and wife. Its fun, it will wear thin at some point but for now, fun.
The next fun is that our little bouquet, traveling to Brazil for the Wedding fairs, has bought us a trip to Mallorca (Majorca). We're going next week and I'm so excited to get away from the damn snow!!! We had a mini-honeymoon care of my family a few weeks ago where we had a wonderful stay at the fantastic Hotel Fox in Copenhagen. Each room is decorated differently and we had a room that was a
'secret nightclub' theme it was very cool, very burlesque in theme. We had a beautiful sushi dinner included and the hotel staff was even awesome, a couple of really fun and friendly Polish girls who were really nice; they are the kind of people you want to be friends with instantly so that was a really good feeling. Next up Mallorca. Sun, cocktails, relaxing! Then a quick weekend (March) in Berlin to meet a friend who is visiting from Canada and then I debate whether or not to investigate a PhD! Choices, choices.
All is well though and I'm happy! Very happy in fact. I read a great document today: http://chrisguillebeau.com/3x5/files/2008/06/worlddomination.pdf Its brilliant, well written and VERY motivating. If you have time, I suggest you read it!
