I am writing again because I am off to Xinjiang today for Spring Festival. For political reasons I won't go into now, the internet is extremely limited there so I'll be out of contact until perhaps the 24th Feb when I attempt to increase the estimated 2.45 billion journeys made over spring festival by 1. The next stop will probally be Nanjing or Shanghai. They are both very near each other, which is handy. Also I have made a few contacts living there I can hopefully get in touch with. On the negative side, They are on opposite ends of China. Lets put it this way, driving from L.A. to New York City would take 20 less hours than this journey.

But I think it will be worth it for experiencing a genuine Chinese New Years. I will write the reality once it's been digested but I am told to expect dog, bears feet, crickets, chicken feet, turtle blood soup, ducks neck and any organ you care to name. Open mind, open stomach? Had cow stomach the other day... Wasn't too bad...

Good luck
Very enterprising Richard. Cow stomach, known to us as tripe was loved by my mother, who used to eat it raw with vinegar. Lord knows what you will be offered, but good for you for giving it all a go. Love you lots, Grandma and Granddad

Hello from Grandma Fenner
Thankyou for sending all your blogs. I am awe-struck at your ability to cope, at the same time I dont envy you your diet and long hours of travel. The places you have been sound unbelieveable and very beautiful. We worry about your expedition to Mongolia and wish you and Sam "good luck". The weather here is cold too! How are you managing to find a cashpoint in a buddhist temple etc?! We hope you and Sam are still friends after all your trials and adventures. We think of you both and look forward to your safe return at Christmas. Im impressed by photos/your diaries, if not the spellings! When are you going to publish a book and present your travelogue on tellie ?!! Bye for now. Lots of love from me and your grandad Fenner. Stay safe.
