We eventually left Bangkok and flew up north to Chiang Mai. We only stayed a few days but we squeezed loads in! When we first got there, we wandered around to find our feet and ended up in a bar having a few too many! It was a good night, we watched the dirty old men with the young Thai girls, and seen an elephant that wandered past.
The next day we rented bicycles and cycled to the zoo. It was a really good day, you can get ridiculously close to the animals and can even feed some of them includng the leopards and hippopotamuses. We both fed the giraffes.
We also seen pandas eventually after not getting to see them in China! Although we didnt get to see the baby, as they only let it out for 1 hour a day.
On the night we went to see Muay Thai which is Thai boxing, it was really good. There were quite a few matches on, including some kids who were about 10 which I didnt really like watching, but the rest were good. We again had a few to many, ended up playing pool with some locals in a bar till the early hours, and later found out that one of them had won loads of trophies...no wonder we didnt do very good!

We went on a trekking tour to the jungle, where we visited an elephant camp. The elephants were cute and we got to feed them, and the little 6 month baby which was gorgeous! We rode on one in the jungle for an hour, it was good fun! After that we trekked to a local village tribe and a waterfall. We went for a swim and the water was freezing but refreshing after our hike in the red hot sun!
Then we went white water rafting which was really good and there were a few big rapids in parts....I think we all fell off our seats at one point! We were having water fights with the other rafts aswell....again the water was freezing!! After that we had a slow trip on a bamboo raft... Craig was the captain and crashed into a rock! The Thai guy at the back of the boat who was pushing it was weird, he just kept rubbing water on my back! ...I was a little scared.
After all that we were knackered!
We flew back to Bangkok to pick up our bags and the next day got a train to Ayuthaya, which is about 1.5hours north of Bangkok. The train was ridiculously cheap - cost 30baht (55p for both of us). Everyone on the train seemed really happy, people are so friendly and just share food with people they dont now....so different to home. If you offered food to a stranger on a train in England they would probably move seats and just think you were weird.
When we arrived in Ayuthaya the tuk tuk drivers were there waiting at the train station to rip off the tourists. They tried to charge us 50baht (about 90p) to the river crossing which took us about 5 minutes to walk, then cost us about 7p to cross!
We found Tonys Place, an ok guesthouse...no a/c or hot water and the bathroom is outside on the balcony but it has character!
Its a very sleepy quiet place compared to Bangkok, its nice to get away from the hustle and bustle. On the night we had a few drinks and ended up talking to a very annoying lesbian who thought she was a man (this is not me being homophobic, she did actually say to us that she sees herself as a man). She owns an elephant sanctuary here where you can go and look after the elephants for days/weeks but it costs a fortune. We were also talking and drinking with some Thai guys. I say talking to them, but they didnt speak English and unfortunately we dont know much Thai apart from Hello and Thank You but we managed to communicate through the language of football!!
We spent a day at the temples and seen some cute puppies!
We are loving Thailand so far and dont want to have to come home! Next stop......Lopburi
