Here's just a small blog on my experiences with food living in Inner Mongolia province. I have included a short but useful list of words and phrases in Pinyin, photos of take away food we ate on the job and some interesting facts;

WORD & PHRASES LIST

Did you know ...

... that the amount of bamboo chopsticks used in China is immense!; a staggering estimate of 45 billion pairs of disposable chopsticks are used and thrown away each year!! That is equal to 25 million fully grown trees annually!

... that in 2002, China had a fourth of the world's chicken population , at around 4 billion chickens!

... that in North China, most Chinese' favorite meat on the barbie is chicken feet ?

... that the consumption of rice in China (of course worlds largest consumer) stood at 135.000.000.000 kg in 2003/2004!

... that when KFC first translated its advertising slogan "finger lickin' good" into Chinese, it came out as "eat your fingers off"

... that China is by far the worlds largest garlic producer with 12.088.000.000 kg! (2008 figures)

... that Kung Fu Tea (Gong Fu Cha) has got nothing to do with martial arts?

慢慢吃！ (mànmàn chī!)

(Literally meaning 'eat slowly', although hardly ever said in China)
