Go Team 'Mo!
Douglas, our man So We've officially crossed our 14th state line in 3 weeks. We're only going through a total 16 new states on the tour, so you can imagine how much criss-crossing we'll do to fill the time from here on out. Which seems fine to me; repeated chances to visit or revisit favorite areas...like the JACK-A-LOPE capitol of the WORLD, Douglas, Wyoming. Meet Douglas, our team Mascot. We picked him up in a little novelty shop, and have since velcroed him to our dashboard. He faces the road, into the sun, into the future with the dignity of...Mr. Bean. You know, Rowen Atkinson? Trust me, if you know what I'm talking about then you know what I'm talking about.
ANYWAY, two tastey items that I must share with you. In Madison, Wisconsin I tried Blu Creek blueberry beer with my dinner, and it was awesome! Haven't found it since, but believe you me we shall reunite. Next is pistachio muffins. I'm a big fan of all things green tea and pistachio flavored. These muffins were winners. Oh, and although we ARE tired of restaurants, for the sake of science we ate for our first time ever at a BIG BOY today...not
BIG BOYS
Sarah shows some love impressed, but at least now I know. Granted, I should have eaten their famous burger, and instead ordered eggs benedict. Leave it to me.
Ok, I thought drivers in Cali were looney, but the speed limit in the midwest seems to be an imaginary concept. Everyone is always bullying me out of this lane or that, and with a company logo magnet on the back and heavey equipment that could mess us up on slippery roads, I'm in no condition to be competing here people! I don't even think of human drivers as responsible anymore...just headlights. Often in BRIGHT mode...grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
Thankfully the scenery is very well decorated, even with poetry! Why, just yesterday I spotted this little ditty: "AVOID HELL. REPENT. ACCEPT JESUS." Was that Shakespeare or Marlowe? I forget.
Birds. Let's talk about birds. I feel like a ornithologist out here, what with all these species parading around in abundance. Since I'm NOT an ornithologist, I can't talk about all the species by name, but we see cranes, seagulls, ducks, geese, ducks, falcons, hawks, owls, ducks, eagles (one bald eagle), and many many many more exotic types. These ducks, though, are magnificent to watch because they're

Soy como mosco, cuando como no conosco. not so agile as, say, a finch, flying in their perfect V's. They must work harder, and so you see there muscles and weight move much more articulately (like watching an elephant run). If I didn't know better, I'd say flying was their least favorite mode of transportation; as if they were evolving away from it into a predominantly aquatic lifestyle. OH, and sometimes we see these small birds traveling in rotating tube-like flocks. Organized in ways I've never seen, these guys keep me feeling like a wide-eyed 5-year old. By the way, there's supposed to be some big story on the bird flu on ABC. Saturday I think.
Speaking of the flu, I've come down with a little something which threatened to take away my voice. I immediately upped my intake of vitamins (centrum, Airbornes/Emergencies) and have been drinking lots of honey with lemon. Seems to be working, and with rest and exercise I should win this thing.
We have begun to really savor what a routine can do for us. The routine of putting up the set before every show and placing all of my MANY props and costumes has become surprisingly enjoyable. We work with
speed and very few words, as it's time to focus and reconnect with any notes we might have given ourselves the previous day. Then we change, and I put in eye drops, blow my nose, apply vicks, disinfect my hands, drink a bit of lemon and honey, and stretch until the kids file in. And then is when life takes on a whole new...color, speed, energy level. These kids are everything! It's a miraculous exchange we take part in; we make eachother feel important. What's more is the enthusiasm we get from the teachers before and after the fact. It's the best! Really quick, after our performances we generally have a Q&A sesh, and these are our two favorite questions so far:
1) What channel are you guys on?
2) Why did white people and black people hate eachother?
Alright, last but not least...JJ. Here are a few comic books I have picked up and gobbled up. Part 3 of Batman: County Lines (brilliant!), a new series called Batman Year 100 (the art is a bit....mmmmm different, but is much like the Frank Miller stuff you own and it makes total sense with the story), and then an
issue of Catwoman (got it for the art which is among my favorite so far). Pick them up if you get a chance, or wait til I get back when you can enjoy them fully.
*yawn* well, bed beckons me, plus I have to watch this episode of "Good times"...this is the one where they can't make the rent and almost get evicted!
Love,
Markuz
