The last 3 days we have been travelling through the North Island, seeing sites, space, forests, thermal wonderlands, winerys and a lot of rain, New Zealand does not only delivery the best of the 1950,s in ways and politeness with a modern aspect but it matches Britain for similar wet Summer weather, just slightly warmer.

The pictures tell the travelogue right into Auckland in the Western top of the North Island.

Finally I want to so thank Judith and Kevin for enduring me for a week ,showing and sharing the fabulous New Zealand, it has been a great joy and a rest which I needed, to recover from Thailand/Burma and prepare me for the next leg in Chile.

As I pack and go to the airport to cross the Pacific there is sadness saying good bye to my family, we laughed and saw so much, this has been a very special time.

A final thought.

The British colonised New Zealand.

The French so nearly did it instead of us after all they were with Captain Cook.

Can you imagine how different this place would be?

Anthony, thank you for this report that I read in La Tour where the fence you built is still there intact and solid; your travelblog made me remember the 3 fantastic days I spent with Robert visiting Northen Island before the Icom meeting in Auckland some years ago. Sure I will go back there with Corinne one of these days... Regarding your terrible question: what a French NZ would look like? I can only say that I have the feeling that the English did much better than the French with their colonies... see the mess in La Guadeloupe...or in Nouvelle Calédonie... Enjoy the rest of your trip and see you soon. Best. Olivier
