We left HCMC for Mui Ne beach so we could have some sun and do nothing for a week. Well we did just about nothing so theres not much to write about! We got nice weather and stayed in a nice bungalow next to the beach for £7 per night, and they did real chips....always a bonus.
We braved it and rented a motorbike for a day, to drive to the sandunes. We did find them but there was a huge lake between us and the dunes, so we took photos from a distance! Never mind, we have seen sandunes in South Shields before! Craig got sunburn (it was only a matter of time).
There was a lot of watersports there because its so windy, Craig wanted to try the kite sufing but left it too late.Hopefully he will be able to do it somewhere else.

Highlights of Mui Ne :
Sun, Relaxation, Motorbike trip, Sun!

Low points of Mui Ne :
Seeing a naked german man on the beach

We headed back to HCMC after being bitten to death by mosquitos. We had to go back to start our tour of the Mekong delta from there. We booked a tour for 2 days (after we were told it was too dificult to communicate with locals if we tried to go on our own).
We stayed in HCMC for the 2nd time for 2 nights, and unluckily picked the worse place to stay...over the road from a 24 hour bar. We found an international food festival, which was fun. We ate frankfurters and mustard amongst other stuff. We also made a mess of our bathroom as I decided I wanted to dye my hair! Also dying my finger in the process as there was a hole in the glove. I have a black fingernail now.

On our tour of the Mekong, we visited My Tho,Can Tho and Ben Tre. We got on a boat and visited an island, tried honey tea, paddled down the river in true Vietnamese style. Although the woman who was rowing the boat asked Craig to row because her arm was aching!
We also visited another island where they make cocunut candy. Craig thought it tasted "alright", I thought it was rank. Then we travelled for 4 hours to get to our hotel. The second day was better than the first. We got on a boat at 6.30am!!!!!!!!!!!! to visit floating markets. We also went to where they made rice vermecelli noodles. Later that day, us and a few others from our tour had to get a bus to Rach Gia (which was the connection to our next destination, Phu Quoc Island). The bus was tiny with no air con. We stopped at the bus station for no reason. We were waiting here for a bit so I got off to find toilets, but the bus was packed full and there were backpacks covering the doorway. Then I fell about 5 feet onto my back and cracked my head on the rock gravel floor! I thought I was going to pass out, loads of people came running over. I have a massive bruise on my back, scrapes on my elbows and a huge bump on my head! Trust me...
The bus took about 3 hours. It wasnt the best road in the world, and Craig has developed some weird irrational fear of bridges after watching a documentary in Hong Kong about disastrous bridges. We must have crossed about 15 bridges and walked under 1.
We got talking to 2 American lads on the bus, Chris and Zev. So we ended up staying in the same hotel as them...it was the worst yet.
Had to change rooms as there was no lights and there was some sort of rodent droppings under the bed. I think the mattresses were made from concrete. It wasn't great for my newly bruised back, but was only for one night. On the night we walked around to try and find somewhere to eat, although didnt have much luck as Rach Gia is not a tourist town. It was good to be somewhere with no tourists though. There must have been about 30 kids who said Hello to us as we were walking about.
We got the boat the next day to Phu Quoc Island, which we will update the blog soon!
