Back home in Brooklyn, NY, sitting at my kitchen table with a turkey in the oven, I can't help but feel more thankful than ever. Yes, it's three days after thanksgiving,...but what good does it do to show gratitude and thanx for everything we have, only one day a year? Even as I sort through my mail and the stacks of bills, wondering if can scrounge up enough $ to pay rent on the 1st, I feel blessed. Warm and cozy with the smell of turkey in the air, my wonderful friends due to arrive shortly, bringing more food to share, life is a gift. The children in Africa, arriving at the Rift Valley Children's Village that very first day...wondering what's happening to them, what is this strange place with all the wazungu (white people), and what are they going to do to me? The blessings are apparent as they come out of their shells and explore and absorb the incredible new world around them. The smiles on their faces as they experience something as foreign as Halloween, or as different and fun as playdough, reflect the gratitude they find in being given this fresh new start in life. The thanks these kids give back through their smiles and hugs, even a colorful drawing,...makes me what to give them more. The amazing experience I shared with the Children of Rift Valley is one that I will never forget. For any of you looking to volunteer your time in a rewarding way, to benefit more than just yourself, the Tanzanian Children's Fund is a wonderful organization. Check out the website and see more pics of the adorable children I've spent the past six weeks with. http://www.tanzanianchildrensfund.org/
Oh, and here's one more video of my preschool kids singing in Swahili.
Enjoy!!
