Not like any other capital i've ever seen. No highrise buildings, no mcdoogles or bugger king in sight (although I did see a kfc), PP is the real deal. A swirling chaotic mass of human weirdness. The bikes swerve and jostle like crazed giant ants, the people are friendly, warm, some badly deformed, always laughing, shouting, selling, hassling. Its mad, mad, mad. But what can you do in PP (apart from watch the amazing lilfe unfold around you)? Well of course there is the jovial highlight known a Toul Sleng (formely Security Prison 21 under the Khmer Rouge) - the Genocide Museum. Well is was an experience, not one you could ever say you enjoyed, but worthwile nevertheless. It was a school, then a toture chamber, with tiny brick sells and a history of unimaginable cruelty.

After that darkness, we need a lift so it's off to the market for some local colour (the main one being blood red!). The smells are undescribable, I'll just say that I just managed to keep down the snake I ate the night before! Live crabs, chickens packed in tiny cages, massive fish being beheaded right in front of you, giant squids, deep fried tarantulas - hey and that's just the entree.

Hmm, so PP is a real space out. But I really liked it, it feels like the real deal. Gritty, dirty, alive. The hassles get you down a bit though as you cant walk more than 50 yards without a street kid, or a mother and baby, or an amputee wanted to sell to you or beg from you. You give a little here and there, but always wonder if it isnt counter productive.
