I know it has been a while since I’ve updated the blog. We have had a lot going on with a visit from my mom and her neighbor, Joyce, who is also a very good friend of our family. We thought they would need a few days to recuperate from the trip over here but they were both up the next morning ready to go. We went for eighteen days straight without much rest at all. We all had a wonderful time and have said many times that we can’t believe everything we saw in China. We started and finished with a few days in Shanghai. I along with our driver took them to She Shan to see the Catholic Church on the mountain. Jason and I went in the summer and I put some pictures on the blog of the church. We also went to the fabric market where Mom dropped off a shirt to have copied for my dad. They have stalls with silk products so we spent a lot of time looking around so they would have gift ideas. We had a lot of cities planned to visit but it was nice to see what was available to

buy in Shanghai. Next we were off to see Yu Garden. There is a Buddhist Temple there that we visited and gardens that we walked through. We had a tea service at the Huxingting Tea House. I was also new to this so it was an adventure for all of us. The food was a little bit of an adventure in itself but the tea was good.

We went for a stroll down Doulon Road which has been restored back to the 1920’s style. It is currently lined with antique shops. We went to a Korean restaurant for lunch which Jason and I had gone to with a co-worker of his. It is a lot of fun as they bring out your food and cook it on a grill that is in the middle of your table. Not only is it fun to watch but the food is wonderful.

We also went to the observatory on the 100th floor of the Shanghai World Financial Center. The building has the distinction of having the highest observatory in the world. Part of the floor is clear glass so it took a little getting used to walking around but you could

see for miles.

We took them to Nanjing Road (the site of my first shopping trip in Shanghai) only because it is in all of the tourist books so you need to have the experience. And we can’t forget seeing the Jade Buddha temple and the old streets of Shanghai. These seem to be disappearing fast so I was glad they we able to see some of them. They were able to see the future of Shanghai at the Urban Planning Museum. It was good to be able to show them there is actually a plan behind all of the construction going on around the city.

Having lived in Shanghai for six months now, I can’t believe that the tours have people spend only one day here. We have seen so many things here and have a lot more to see before we move.
